Project CD software???

Just wondering.... so far... all I've been doing is recording individual songs. So now I'm thinking I might want to put a few of these together (8 to 10 tunes) on a CD, and have it sound cohesive....all songs with the same basic "sound" and levels adjusted so it sounds like one project and not just a collection of individual songs.

Is there a software platform that would allow all the songs to be imported as waves and then worked on as a cohesive project...... maybe even allowing a plug in like OZONE 4 to be inserted and applied to the entire project.

And then when it's finished...burn it to a CD.

Any ideas? Any recommendations?

    Hi Guitar,

Most people around here know by now that I'm a huge fan of Wavelab. Perhaps it's a very personal or subjective thing, but it is probably the best/most useful software I've purchased - and I've purchased quite a few. Now, it is not a Mastering plugin, but a Mastering application - unlike Ozone, T-Racks, etc...
It is extremely intuitive to use and you'll learn a lot about what Mastering actually involves beyond the fact of having a series of tracks at the same level.

    I like Sony CD Architect.
Once you've got your tracks mixed, this will compress/ EQ/ organize them into one cohesive group of tracks that gets burned to disc.

No need to spend money, if that's a concern. (It's certainly a consideration here at Bitflipper Manor :)

Just load up your songs into a new SONAR project, in sequence in a single stereo track. (Export the originals as 24- or 32-bit files. 24-bit files have the advantage of being compatible with most media players, so you can preview them with WMP.)

Add a volume envelope with nodes in each of the blank spaces between songs and adjust up and down to get them all at approximately the same level.

Throw on Boost11, or if you have an extra $279, Ozone 4 and squash to taste. Export the compilation to a single 16-bit wave file and you can use almost any old CD-burning application to put them on disc.

The advantage of CD Architect is you can do both the leveling and burning in one application. It's a pretty good program, but I just have a personal policy of not giving Sony any more money than I have to. With a generic burning app such as Nero, there is an extra step required, placing the indexes on the file.

Wavelab is a viable alternative, and sonic isn't the only fan of it around here. But again, I have vendors I prefer not to support, and Steinberg is one of them. And I don't like dongles.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I would agree with Bit flipper, go low cost at the outset and see if you get close to the results your looking for. I'm continually surprised that less is more especially when doing your own first run projects. Also, for what it's worth, I use CD architect and I occasionally have studdering issues using the same plugs I use in sonar. It's possible that my ASIO driver settings are to lean in CD architect for what Sonar is able to handle quite nicely and I usually just apply them with in Sonar before exporting. 2 cents

    I have O3&4.... so I'll give that a try....

Instead of loading the songs in series...I had thought about stacking them in tracks.... so I could A/B them easily using solo or mute.

Envelopes could raise levels.... and a common O4 setting could sweeten them all the same. I'll try that and see.

This is not something I was seeking right now, but for some time in the future when I get ready to put a demo together.

    Gracias...
