Project Doesn't Load Audio Files

The project opens, but it's not "finding" the audio.  All the audio is in the folder, and there are no error messages ... so the program thinks everything is fine.

Any suggestions towards correction or explanation of the behavior?

I'm at 8.5 PE.

Thanks!

What format was the project saved in? .CWP?

Go to the Options / global and check your file pathways.
Or go to the folder where the data is stored and open the CWP file by double clicking on it, its the grey icon. If it works just do a save as and put it where it belongs.

Yes, Dave ... the file in question is a .cwp file.

Johnny -- the .cwp file and the audio data are in the same master folder. Is there another cwp file in w/ the audio data? I'm not certain what you meant.

    Thanks!

I remembered something I did that may be part of the problem, for I'm getting odd behavior out of the whole system now.

My Superior Drummer launches, but won't load the sound files either. Remapping right to the sounds gets recognized by the plug, but then nothing happens.

I swapped two of the smaller data drives (No programs on the drives, only data for programs) recently for two 500G drives via a straight copy. I set up the system the same afterwards and figured "done".

Everything looked fine following, but now I wonder.

I just recently did a re install of XP that cleared out all the ghosts from mucking around with drivers. Cakewalk puts everything in the Cakewalks Project folder. If you copy that to a back up drive everything should be in there. Unless you have used the "file" option in Global to change a pathway.
I had been recording using a partition of my 500 gig drive so had directed audio there ( drive E ) I was informed that a partition will not do you any good. so when I re installed OS I deleted the partition. Once done I transferred all the files into drive C Cakewalk folder. If I tried to open project from with in sonar it didnt work, The files were there but the pathways were probably looking for drive E. To get them back all I did was go to the folder with Explorer  open the file by double clicking the cwp icon from within the folder. I think you have a similar problem with missing pathway info.

    Agreed ...

And I just did what you suggested and no luck.

    There's a disconnect w/ the audio files.

Is there a way to reconnect audio files to the project or specifically point a project to it's audio files?

Just ran a "Clean Audio Folder" ... and yep, Sonar believes the files are no longer connected to a Cakewalk project.

    How do I fix that?

Are you sure you have your audio files? They will be in the audio folder within the song project file and they will be named Wave files. The cwp sits outside the audio folder. At least on mine thats the way they are.

    Mine too, J.

I ran the Clean Audio Folder tool on the audio folder and it reported none of the files were associated w/ a Cakewalk project.

I opened the CWAF and I'm in the middle of a scan of all the projects and files. Oddly, a backup folder of the projects has been created on the same drive and the CWAF pointed out to me that it thought the backup folder was the global audio folder. I've since corrected that folder path to the original.

    Re:Project Doesn't Load Audio Files 2010/03/29 20:49:21 (permalink)
Ok just so you might have a better idea.
The file structure should look like this.
    Drive C
    _______Cakewalk Projects
    ________________________Audio Data
in here you will find your cwb or cwp icons and another audio folder which will have your Wave files/ all of mine are named after the song  example - Bluegoo, Audio 1, rec 2   so it's a no brainer to see what belongs to each song. I try to name my tracks and it will show as Bluegoo, Bass, rec 3
You can also create your own folders per each song and then within that folder the Audio folder will only contain waves for that song. Thats the way I do it now. Cakewalk automatically creates an audio folder within your created folders the minute you hit record ( audio)
It will also depend on how you set up a fresh song. If you use templates make sure you do a save as the first time, this will give you the option to make a new folder, name the song, and pick the cwp or cwb options.
So try creating an audio folder and putting the tracks in it then click your song icon.

    Things got weirder.

There is audio in the audio folder contained in the project folder. If you click on it, it will play.

CWAF ignored it like it wasn't there.

It found the .cwp associated with it and correctly registers that it doesn't think there are any .wav files associated w/ the project, but it didn't even register the audio existed.

    Why would that be?

Ever get this figured out Kevin? I have the same problem, project opens but no audio files load, they do exist within the cakewalk projects/audio, and yes they do play. System acted weird before this happened, could not create punch in or loop points, and when recording (punching manually) only did sound on sound, new didn't replace old as it was supposed to.
