Projects that won't open...

I'm having trouble with two projects in particular.

When I try to open them, the loading bar on the bottom of the screen goes to 100%, but then nothing happens. The project will not open, and it stays there, the bar at 100%, and my mouse in the hourglass. I've tried safe mode, tried loading the project with no plugins, but the same issue occurs.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Mahons

Try your back-ups. Hook up your external hard drive or insert the DVD with your back up and see if that loads

    Things to look at:
Is your sound card connected and on?
Is there any midi or any hardware connected to your pc durring those projects that are not connected anymore??
Did you change anything in your pc?
Try openning the sonar project form the folder location, not form clicking sonar. Maybe change the name also.
Is it a CWP and per project or a CWB file?

This is a major gripe for me. I collaborate with 2 other Sonar users and I've had this happen a lot. Why is it so hard for Sonar to just open a session NO MATTER WHAT? If the soundcard or midi devices are different, shouldn't it still be able to open the session? Even a missing plug-in can hang the system - wtf? Ignore the missing plug and OPEN THE SESSION. If the i/o is different, send all audio outputs to the current device (or NONE) and temporarily bypass the midi i/o. Also if there is audio missing, sometimes Sonar will ask for the missing audio, other times it will just hang and leave you to figure out the problem yourself-- not always obvious when a client is sending you unknown files.

It's like Sonar is waiting for a device that isn't there and just keeps waiting and waiting...

You can always use SAFE mode loading.

And, Sonar loads with "missing plugins" and warns you. That started in Version 6 or 7 I think.

But if I have a bad audio device that is not "letting go", I'd prefer the system let's me know that ;)

And, btw, - tell Bill Gates to not crash or BSOD when a device has trouble as well.

When a system "hangs", it's almost always due to hardware issue (driver, or something unplugged) so that makes it easier to figure out anyway.

Trust me, after years of collaboration- I know about safe mode. It does not always work. I know Sonar is supposed to warn you- it doesn't always work. About the audio device not letting go, yeah let me know- BUT STILL OPEN THE SESSION!

    Catch my drift?

Well, is there some sort of trial and error process to get these projects to open? How have you handled this situation in the past? I really need to get these to open...

I just tried opening the projects from the folder location, and my computer is telling me

    "Windows cannot find 'Cakewalk Projects/....'"

What are the steps to fix this issue?

    Thanks

Ok, it sounds like you may have moved your project folder, but not your audio folder.
Can you check to see that there is audio in the audio folder of the CWP file.
Theres 2 folders, a CWP folder and in that folder there is an audio folder that contains all audio to that project

Yes, there is a folder with the audio for the project next to the .CWP itself.
I made a copy of the .CPW a while ago, just so I could have a backup to revert to if something happened. Could that be causing some sort of a problem?

You may have moved it and not copied it. Go load the back-up

Is there actual audio files in it???

The same issue seems to be happening with the original.

Yes, there are audio files in the "Audio" folder.

Since I still have the audio files, I suppose I could just start over again if worst comes to worst...

Did it ever open? Did you try it after you backed it up?? This question is important.

Yes, I used it for a couple of months after I copied it, with no problems. There must be something that I changed on my computer that caused things to go haywire. Could a missing VST do this?

Yea. You should go into soane's global folder and turn off scan for VSts upon start-up. you can access it form any project or start a new one if you want. I have sonar set so i can access all the global folder options when i don't have a project loaded. i don't know if yours is set like that. but change the scan at start up to not scanning at start up and see if that helps
