when you insert a softsynth, it adds a DXi or VSTi track as the output of that softsynth. that's the track I'm talking about.

Rob--don't think you're the only one that doesn't get this stuff the first time--I remember one unbelievably long thread where they were trying to help me get this step. Now it seems so straightforward and easy, but it sure didn't a few months ago! Keep on asking questions, and don't think you're the only one who's ever asked them!!

The shaker on the right could be your keyboard. You're using a Yamaha, right? The shaker on my Yamaha is also mostly on the right. The keyboard is stereo, and the panning is already programmed into the computer, so when it plays, it already has the stereo panning set. Most noticable with percussion, Beagle once wrote he liked the stereo effect of the drums in one of my songs (I think it was "Betty Ann"). But I had nothing to do with that; it did it on it's own.
For greater control of the panning, you can record/bounce your tracks as mono.
