Pull Up The Covers...

During my four days without land line, cable tv or internet (thanks Uverse!!) I thought of many things.  All dumb.

One of those things was to post this thread seeking to ascertain what your absolute favorite "cover tune" is and who did it.

For instance...while it would be all too easy to say that mine was Donald Fagen's version of "Ruby Baby"...it's not.
(favorite piano solo in a pop tune, yes...but cover, no).

That honor for moi goes to:  Marc Cohn's (and his producer John Leventhal's) cover of Harry Nillson's "Turn On Your Radio".

What's yours??

Glad you didn't loose your electricity. I think loosing my phone for awhile would be a good thing.Internet not so much.

I'm presently a trove of emptiness concerning your question.

This is terrible to say but I don't want to hear anyone else playing anything or even think about it. My ears are on overload from last night. I have been without cover tunes for longer than 4 days and I hardly remember them any more. I get down right tired of the commercials on the radio in my car and my better half gets tired of my turning on the radio at home. I even got one of those new blue tooth streaming things I hook up to my phone. Thousands of stations but we seldom ever agree on which one is best. Pretty soon I won't even know what a cover tune is anymore.

Yeah, love Cohn's cover of that tune. great album actually.

This is an easy one. I was stunned by this when I first saw it, and still watch it regularly, Jacob Moon's version of Rush's 'Subdivisions'

Here's a few off-hand. Not sure if I have a favorite though (sorry):

Jerry Douglas with Mumford and Sons doing Simon & Garfunkel's "The Boxer". I love Douglas' Dobro work:

K.D. Lang makes Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" her own. What a singing voice!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT-hAfIODXQ

And she does it again with Neil Young's "Helpless":

"absolute favorite" will change from day to day, Today it might be Marc Cohn's cover of The Letter, tomorrow it might be ELO's Roll Over Beethoven and then on any given day it might be Just A Giggalo by DLR.

But...... The Forum Monkeys, Straumpu & The Coffee House Choir and even The Coffee House Collaborators have done some real damage, that's for sure.

There are so many so good cover versions it's hard to pick one, or two...or ten.

Nazareths version of "Love hurts" really makes you believe it hurts.
Joan Osbournes version of Dylans "Man in the long black coat" is also good.
(I miss Joan Osbourne, I love her voice. Haven't heard of her for years, the last sign of life I noticed was her
performance in the film  "In the shadow of Motown")
For some reason those popped in my mind first.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

One of those things was to post this thread seeking to ascertain what your absolute favorite "cover tune" is and who did it.
    ...
    What's yours??

The Clams -- doing the Carpenters song! CLASSIC

Roger Ruskin Spear -- Pinball Wizard!  Way better than the original from the album "Unusual"

All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix is probably THE ultimate cover version of a song for me. Though Sleepwalk by Brian Stezer probably is my ultimate song whatsoever.
