Punch Recording

Up until a few days ago I thought punching out meant I was done for the day.

I've been looking at all kinds of information on punch recording and am able to set my punch and loop points.
I start the recording and get in the groove. When I get to the punch point it all records just fine then loops back to the beginning of the groove as expected.

The only problem I'm having is: I keep hearing the first take as well as the new take. It really throws me off and I end up with a take that was worse than the first one.

How do I record the new part without hearing the previous one? I still want to hear the first take up until the punch in point.

Sorry for all the stupid questions, but I'm new. ;)

    Welcome to the forum!

I think you may have the recording mode set to sound on sound mode instead of comping mode.
Right click on the big record button on the Control Bar and change mode.

Just had one of those Ah...ha...moments.

Went to Preferences/project/record/Auto punch. Put a check in the box that said "Mute Previous Tracks." Now all is well.
