Punch recording not working for me

I am using the Punch In/OUt module to record over the messed up part of a vocal, trying to replace it.  But it is just adding the new vocal, not replacing the old one, so both new and old are heard. I must be missing something.

I have highlighted the part of the timeline to record over, have the Auto Punch Toggle turned on, set the punch points by clicking on the Set Punch Points icon, armed the track for recording, and pressed R on the keyboard to record,

Any ideas why it would retain the original recording between the punch points?  Thanks.

You can always click the layers on the track to see the old recording and new recording and just delete the old one.....

Not sure about X1 but if you were using 8.5 I'd say your recording options were set to Sound on Sound instead of Overwrite.

Unfortunately this is an oversight of X1. Every version of Sonar has displayed what record mode you're in either overwrite, sound on sound or autopunch. It's easy to forget, so this should be displayed. Right now you have to stop playback and open the preferences window to see what the mode is and change it.
