Punch-In Delay Problem

I have a question concerning the punch-in feature.  I want the MIDI note to record even if it is slightly before the punch-in marker.  At the very least, it should record the trailing note.

I tested hitting the midi keyboard, while recording, an exact amount of times.  It was missing one note.  In fact, it did record with virtually no delay.  The problem was the note that was triggered ever so slightly before the punch in was not recorded.  So, this kind of makes sense.  However, even if you strike the midi note a little earlier(human playing, who is a computer?), it won't record it.  Is there a way to make the midi note that is still struck when it goes into punch-in to record?  Say, you struck the key 10ms before.  I thought Sonar would record the key that is still depressed(not just triggered).

Any ideas?
