Quality of vocal recording good enough?

Hi people,

I'm doing a project with a friend, and unfortunately vocals have to be recorded at home. I'm having problems getting the vocal to fit properly in the mix, and wondered if people with better engineering ears than me could have a listen and give an honest opinion (the technical side, not the performance!) Is there too much room sound in the recording? If not, any advice on the right kind of EQ treatment etc to help it sound better would be much appreciated.

I'm only getting the vocal, not the mix, is that right? The vocal itself sounds ok but it all has to do with how it sounds in relation to the other elements.

Hearing this in the mix would be so much better....

but the question I always ask when folks ask, Is this track good enough?  I ask... Good enough for what?

not trying to be a wise guy... simply asking a serious question.

What's the intended purpose of the whole song?  Demo? Finished project for commercial use?  Sell on CD Baby? Radio airplay?

Well, I do not hear any background noises nor room ambivalence that could disturb other instruments.

So on a technical level I'd say the quality is good.

Now as others have said in the context of the music it's hard to say what trouble you have with it in the mix. If the song is bass heavy you may need to cut some of the lows in the vocal track or add some sparkle on the high end.

Maybe you could post your current mix (as is) and then some better advice could be given.
