Quantization for swing beat songs

Hi, I'm composing a song with a time signature which actually don't of, I think its 6/8 or maybe 12/8, in any case I could cite songs that are similar, Baying of the Hounds by Opeth would have the same time sig, by the same token I remember having a lot of difficulty quantizing a beat which was similar to Wolf at the Door by Radiohead. The problem is that the quantizer in cakewalk is remarkably fussy when it comes to beats recorded in this time sig, the closest I can get it to quantize accurately is according to the 32nd setting, but even then certain beats are misplaced. Now I could play the beats exactly in time, but its not just that, any other sig doesn't present this problem at all when I'm recording and quantising drums but anything with some swing in it introduces this problem. I was wondering if there was a quantization setting which works for this style of rhythm?

For 6/8 time as in most slow blues or shuffles use the triplets.

Keep it as 4/4 time, but set snap to 8th triplets.

Where you sometimes get in trouble is when there is a mix of straight and triplet values. In that case, you have to quantize at the next lowest triplet value that is common to both. So for mixed 8ths (480 ticks) and 8th triplets (320 ticks), you would need to quantize to 16th triplets (160 ticks).

If it's truly "swing" timing where some notes are somewhere between straight and triplet time, you'll want to use the swing value in the quantize dialog in conjunction with the appropriate straight quantize value, but it can be difficult to get this to work right.

In any case, it pays to take a close look at the timing of a clip in the PRV with different snap grid resolutions displayed so you know what you're starting with.
