Nobody will replace Freddie

Quite right. Nobody can replace Freddie because he was an original.

I've heard some great Hendrix imitators and Elvis impersonators and Beatles tribute bands. Jamie Foxx was outstanding as Ray Charles, as was Gary Busey in The Buddy Holly Story and Sissy Spacek in Coal Miner's Daughter. Hank Azaria and Billy West can sound just like Mel Blanc.

But amazing as they are, they can never be more than a photograph of the original. By definition, there can only ever be one original. Still, that doesn't diminish the value of photographs.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I'll add Joaquin Phoenix to that list, superb as Johnny Cash in 'Walk the Line'.

Val Kilmer in that (albeit crappy at times) Doors film too.  During the auditions with Val singing as Morrison, Manzarek asked from another room "Is that Jim?" thinking he was hearing a reference tape.
