Question Re: Annoying "Feature" of Project 5v2

When I'm starting up P5v2 and inadvertently forget to first turn on my Midisport router, or maybe decide not to if I only want to mouse-play with the Groove Matrix, Project understandably removes the intended ports from the available devices (though you can elect to receive a warning about this).

However, should I then turn on my MIDI router, close down and restart Project, I have to re-open the MIDI panel and manually go through the process of reinstating them again.

Is there a simple way of preventing Project from permanently removing available devices should for any reason I start the application without external MIDI devices functional?

Sonar 4 doesn't have any problems at-all in this respect.

With thanks,

Brendan.

The same issue happens on my system since I have a portable interface that does double-duty for my notebook and my laptop. I haven't found a way around it myself other than just being careful to have the interface operational before launching P5.

    Thanks Techead.

Having only used P5v2 relatively recently I thought that I was just being stupid and overlooking something.

    Maybe something for P5v3?

    All the best,

    Brendan.

I had the same problem too wit both P5 as well and with aSonar not remembering I had the BCF2000 attached to it. If you don't have the devices on when starting the sequencers, the ports are left out.

I went out and purchased an inexpensive power conditioner to add to my rack and plugged my PC and my DC power cords to it that controlled the BCF200 controllers and the oxygen 8 midi controller. Now when I turn things on, the fort conditioner I hit for both controllers, the next one is for any outboard gear, and the last is for the PC and the Monitors.

If I always leave the units on and controll them with the conditioners, I never have a problem. The only thin I have to remember to cut on now it the PC itself.

This can be down with just power strips as well, it realy doesn't matter. Just as long as your remember to never cut them off, but only turn on the power strip first.

    Peace

Enjoy the sweet sound of music forever!

    Hi James

Previous content edited out as I caught your drift - just a difference in terminology which led me down the wrong track! DOH !

A good idea you have, particularly where you have to remember to power up everything relevant before a session. Half my trouble is that I often turn on the PC to use the internet and check Emails, and then decide to launch myself into a session and launch Project without always thinking first.

It's a shame that one has to go to such lengths due to an oversight that could be easily resolved in software, though maybe this will be improved upon in Project 5v3... or maybe not . Not the end of the world though - just a niggle

    Thanks again.

    Brendan
