Question about X1 Volume Fader and Voume of Kontakt Instrument..........

Everytime I rewind my Sonar project, the volume of the Kontakt Instrument reverts to where to midi fader is set at in X1. I can't get volume in Kontact to go past anything 127 (velocity)! I don't have any envelopes enabled. Seems to me that I should be able to set the volume of a Kontact Instrument to any level and THEN have Sonar adjust, not the other way around :(

I'm still (kinda) new to Kontakt and virtual instruments so please, go easy :):) Thanks!

It's not what we're doing, it's how you do it :)

For what it's worth, I've experienced the exact same thing for as long as I've been using kontakt. For this reason, I only adjust the volume via the midi track volume. Usually that's loud enough for mixdown anyway. If you need more juice out of it, you can always edit your outputs in Kontakt and bump up the out a little.

If there is a way to change this, I'd sure like to know, but I've learned to not fight the system and just workaround things :)

I believe the master volume in Native instruments softsynths are automatically controlled by whatever the midi fader is set to. In the inspector midi track right click the fader and uncheck and re-check disable control before moving the master volume fader.

IIRC, Kontakt's upper volume limit is +6dB, meaning Kontakt is amplifying samples above their recorded level. MIDI volume 127 corresponds to 0dB in Kontakt, so that's as high as SONAR can take it. If you really want/need to run Kontakt above 0dB, right-click the volume widget, and choose Disable Control. Then the output volume will stay where you put it in Kontakt, and you can use audio track volume to control the level in the mix.
