Question about audio drivers/audio engine

I have an M-Audio Mobile Pre USB interface, and it worked extremely well with my Home Studio 2002 for years. But now with Sonar Producer, I seem to be having an error with something- audio driver? audio engine? I'm not sure.

But when I try to play or record audio, the NowTime bar moves for a fraction of a second and then goes back to zero. When I try to play files with MIDI in them, the bar scrolls but no sound comes out of my speakers.

I have no problem having audio play from iTunes or Windows Media, however. Any ideas?

Thanks!

your using asio or wdm? perhaps asio is a better answer

itunes / media player use WDM mode normally.

go into your audio settings, in sonar and perhaps change the settings.. e.g. switch it to asio mode

your using the latest drivers on that card also?

Windows media and itunes could be your problems by jusyt having them in your pc. Sonar producer needs allot more than the home studio.
Heres a list of things to do.
    1. download the latest drivers from m-audio
    2. uninstal or disable any onboard sound cards in your pc
    3. Delete your aud.ini file
    4. start sonar with the maudio hooked up and on
    5. try wdm driver mode and asio driver mode with latency settings between 3ms and 30ms
    6. pick the one that works the best
7 you might need to click share drivers with other programs if you have itunes on your pc, but like i said itunes is not good for a pc that you use for recording

Edit. It could also be that your pc cant handle sonar producer. You didnt give any info at all. whats up with that???

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I used to have windows xp and recently got a new laptop w/ vista, and CWHS2002 wasn't working with Vista, which is why I changed to Sonar Producer in the first place.

I went to check if I'm using ASIO or not, and it appears that I'm on MME (32-Bit), and when I try to change to ASIO or WDM and Ihti OK, the options page keeps fading as though it were going away but reappears until I hit Cancel. I also tried to change the Latency setting, but it's 'gray'ed out, and I wouldn't be able to adjust it even if I were able to use the Options-Audio menu at all.

Also, Fog and CJaysMusic, you both mentioned the latest audio drivers- I'm honestly not even sure what an audio driver IS, let alone which one I have. I know, I'm a noob, but I really appreciate your help with this.

You might be in a situation ware you may neeed a vista compatable sound card. go to maudio's web site and see if they have vista32bit drivers for your sound card. Maudio was and is a slacker when it comes to vista drivers. After you download the latest drivers from the site and disable your onboard sound card, delete your aud.ini file and restart sonar with the maudio hooked up.
Do those things first and if it doesnt work come back. you should not be using MME mode, that is the worst driver to use and it just out right sucks

Geat, I'll head to their site right now.
I'm not sure what a aud.ini file is, though- where would I find it so I can delete it?

Cj, thank you so much! I just finished downloading the driver from MAudio, and everything seems to be working perfectly again.
