Question about cc and automation (in regards to BassStation 2 usage)

Last night I was using my BassStation 2 to record a track in my new song and I wanted to automate the overdrive and filter cutoff and I had to revert to using midi CC and drawing in the piano roll. Is there anyway to automate CC's using the automation ribbons on the track timeline (or the automation lanes) like I do with softsynths and plugin effects? It's so much better UI wise then the piano roll.

MIDI tracks have CC automation lanes. If using instrument tracks, split them into their audio and MIDI tracks to access CC automation lanes.

Hmm. Anyone have a video tutorial showing automation lanes for a midi track? I'm not sure how to do it. You can't just select it from a drop down like I do with vsts right?

There is an "X2 Automation Lanes" video on the CakeTV page which is still relevant. At the bottom of the automation selection drop down is a "MIDI..." option which opens the MIDI Envelop dialog, the same dialog as the CC selector in the PRV.

I just watched about 5 different videos there, without finding it.

BUT! with your help I was able to finally find that "midi" option in the automation drop-down -> Midi -> Midi Envelope. Thanks for your help appreciate it, now to go figure out what CC's the BS2 knobs are set to...

I've not played a BassStation 2 (though I once upon a time used the original Bass Station quite a bit), but if the BassStation 2 sends MIDI CCs when you turn the knobs then you can also record the knobs into the MIDI track on the fly. Or record the notes as MIDI first then record the knob turning into the same MIDI track afterwards by overdubbing it.

Which can be much easier than messing around drawing envelopes or controller stuff in Sonar.

    Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

Once recorded, they can be converted to automation data by selecting the clip(s) and using "Convert MIDI controllers to Envelops" in the Track View Clips menu
