Question about drag copying notes in the PRV

Let's say I have two MIDI clips that are side by side. I want to drag-copy some notes from clip 1 into the clip 2. So I go into the PRV, highlight the notes, hit CTRL and drag copy them over to clip 2. However, what happens is that instead of just pasting the notes into clip 2, Sonar extends the length of clip 1 and pastes them into there instead. So what I end up with is an elongated clip 1, with clip 2 sitting on top of it. 

Is there a way of changing this behavior, so that dragging notes in the PRV will conserve existing clip boundaries?

I may be misunderstanding you but if you set the snap value accordingly this wont happen,
try turning off snap as an experiment, if that works, then there's your problem.

Snap isn't the problem - the notes are being moved to the correct position in the PRV. The problem is that back in the track view, the clip they came from has been stretched in order to accommodate the new notes, instead of pasting them into the other clip. Clip 1 stretches underneath clip 2. I guess what is happening is that when you drag a new copy of some notes, Sonar presumes that you want to paste them somewhere in the same clip, and if you paste them past the end of that clip in the PRV, it will stretch the clip to accommodate them. What I want is to take the notes from one clip and paste them in another.

Copy from clip 1 then select clip 2 and paste the notes as required.
