Question about drum tracks in Music Creator 5

I've been using pro audio 9 for the last 10+ years or so and I wanted to get a copy of Music Creator 5.  I was just wondering if there is a similar type of way to program drums?  I've been looking at videos on youtube and they all say I could drop a drum loop in, but I don't want to use loops, I want to be able to program the drum track MY way.

Can anyone help out?

I've never had PA so I don't know how drum tracks were created there, but you can write drums in the Piano Roll view (PRV), or the staff view or record them in live with a MIDI controller or keyboard in Music Creator.

I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.

Yes.... you can enter drums in a variety of ways.

Loops of course, are but one way. There are midi and audio loops. I too am not a fan of loops.

You can also enter the midi data from a (piano style) midi keyboard set up to control one of the drum synths. You simply identify which drums are triggered by which keys and then simply "play" the drums in as it records to the midi track. I used this method several times. But, not being a drummer.... I wasn't "thinking" like a drummer and the tracks showed that all too clearly.

You could also do the same thing using electronic drums. Just play the drum kit with MC recording.

In addition to those 2 similar methods, you can also enter the drum hits manually with a mouse. Using either the staff or the PRV view...whichever you prefer, you simply mouse in the notes. I used this method when I first was getting started in home recording. This is a slow and time consuming way to create drum tracks. I did use a copy/paste/modify/repeat sort of way to speed things up.

Eventually, I realized the tracks lacked life. Not being a drummer, and all that, they were boring. I found Jamstix which basically did the heavy lifting for me and created a useable drum track for me which I could easily edit as needed.  Life got much easier and interesting after Jamstix because JS actually "thinks" like a drummer.

Thank you both for your responses...yes, the "piano roll view" was exactly what I was talking about.  I bought Music Creator 5 this morning haha :)

SO SO much has changed since PA9 that you really need to read the manual and do some tutorials. As you are already "inside" it won't be too hard. Happy composing!

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

I watched quite a few video tutorials on Music Creator 5 before I bought it.  Plus, it was only $21 on Ebay!

Hey Guys! I have had Cakewalk MC5 for a year now and just got a 64 key keyboard and added some drivers to work with MC5 and other music apps... So I finally gave it a chance and I am wondering because I don't know if this was the original question and I read wrong but, is there a way I can add my own sampled drum beats from a folder and get it to work with my keyboard in MC5?

sort of.  you can use the step sequencer to trigger individual hits which you've sampled.  here's a video that might help.  it's for Sonar X3, but the concept is the same.

however, there are MUCH easier ways to get drum sounds into your project than sampling each drum hit yourself and trying to trigger it from the step sequencer, at least IMO.

do you know how to use Studio Instruments Drums?  if you don't know how to use them, then check them out first before trying to sample drums and trigger them using Step Seq.
