Question about "Jump" type envelopes

Hi-

I want an envelope that goes directly from one value to another, so:

I add an envelope, right-click and specify the type as "Jump."
I click to add a node.
The segment before it changes to "Linear" and I have to manually select the segment and specify "Jump" again.

Does anyone know if this is by design and if so, why?

Thanks-

-Susan

Every new node you add defines the end of a new segment, and the transition type for a new segment always defaults to linear and has to be changed after you define it. If you add a node between two existing nodes, as was probably the case here, the segment to the right retains the transition type you previously defined for the whole segment before your new node divided it. If the new node and the ending node are at different levels, you should now see a jump down to the ending node.

Instead of placing a node, can't you just make a selection and use the smart tool?

    Hi Dave-

    Ah, that makes sense!

    Thanks-

    Hi Paul-

I can (and that works great), unless I want to add a node between two existing ones. That's actually what I was trying to do (as Dave pointed out) but I worded the question badly since I didn't realize that the segment type has to be defined after I add the node.

    Thanks-
