Question about "WUP"?

I have a basic question about WUP?

How do you know you need it? For example; I have a Native Power pack license because it was cheaper to buy it than the two plugins in the pack that I actually use.

I got a notice about WUP-ping a couple months ago but I ignored it.

Here is what I can't figure out... how the heck would I know if the two rather ancient plugins that I use could benefit from an update? My personal license is fairly recent but I've used the Power Pack stuff for years and years it never seems to change.

It seems like Waves asked me to WUP up when there wasn't any actual upping to to.

How do you learn when there is actually an update available and perhaps worth getting?

It will show in your account if there is an update available.
You don't HAVE To buy WUP...your current versions will continue to work...
Current version is 9.2 blah blah blah...

The advantage (?) to WUP  is that IF a new version is released the update is free...
It's Plugin "Insurance" so to speak...

Is it true that you can buy WUP after a hiatus and just get the update even if you weren't paying WUP fees when it was being updated?

Is it some sort of multi level pricing system that increases if you don't stay paid up 7/365?

As far as I know  the price to update doesn't increase per se...
the last price change to WUP was the increase of the Cap from $200 to $300 last year..
That's a complex subject in itself, but, simply stated, there is a maximum that you
have to pay to keep WUP current.  You also get a "Voucher" for the price of the update
paid.  So it's not like it money "wasted".

You can let WUP lapse and update when you want it (e.g. new version released, or new plugin.)  You can reWUP at a discount at places like AudioDeluxe, WavesUniverse, etc.

I let my Mercury expire for a few months and then added WUP when I wanted the Scheps 1073 and wound up getting Vitamin and MetaFilter also I believe.  If you have a collection like Mercury then it is worth it IMHO.  I could see how it would be annoying to pay WUP for a handful of single plugins to simply get updates.

    Thanks for the info.

It doesn't seem like a bad system, especially if you don't need an update. :-)

True, it leaves it to your "discretion" and, when you do decide to update they
at least give you "Something" for it...so, all in all, it's not a bad at all....
