Question about updating from Sonar Studio to Sonar Producer X1d...
I've got a close friend who, over the years, I've helped setup and tech support his home studio. He's bought much of my "hand-me-down" gear and last year upgraded to Sonar Studio during a special offer Cake was having. I helped him get that properly installed and running. Now, apparently, Cake is having another special he's taking advantage of and upgrading to full blown Producer X1d. Last night he called me and was having a terrible time downloading all the different components. First, his computer kept shutting down after 20 or so minutes into a download. Not "going to sleep" but fully shutting down. I told him there was probably something set that way in his control panel and he should look for that and change it. Second, his girls were on his Mac watching Netflix and he tought this was probably eating into his broadband. Third, he was not using a download manager so he couldn't "resume" when he'd get his box back up...he'd have to start over. Fourth, IIRC there is something like a 300 minute window Cake gives you to download and he was certainly not going to make that. I told him that the 300 minutes was not "final" that he could get his files anytime at all...he'd just have to "start over" in the process. I also told him to get something like "FreeDownloadManager" and use that. Plus he didn't have an "unrar" program...I suggested 7zip (that's what I generally use...I hope that will work ok).
After talking to him and advising the above I got to thinking. Since Cake is simply registration/serial number authorization could he just load all the content from my backup DVD and then put in his registration and serial number. Does it even matter where he gets the files?? Or are they tied to their respective reg/serial numbers on download? He'll probably get his stuff downloaded and installed eventually...but I'm just looking for a way to expidite it and "de-stress" him. Bless his heart:-)
