Question about using the auto preview in MC5?
I can't figure out what happened, I select to turn on the auto preview icon in the loop explorer view and I can click on a loop and the play icon shows on but no sound is coming out. It's just standard loop drums and not midi. I also checked the output setting on the loop explorer view and it showed the proper out setup. I can move the loop onto the track and hit play and it plays no problem at all. Any ideas what's going on here? Thanks in advance. GuitarBob

I don't use the auto preview. But, if you get no sound when using it, but you do get sound when you don't use it....... simple.... don't use it. I did try a few times to use a thing called AUDITION in connection with midi sounds, and for what it's worth, THAT didn't work so I stopped trying to use it. If I want to audition a sound, I just load it and play.

Thanks, but it's supposed to work, and if your trying to work with drum loops it can save a lot of time and trouble. That's not a very helpful response, you are basically saying "If it's not working don't use it", that's like saying if cakewalk isn't working don't use it. Whatever the case I"ll search elsewhere.

Hey Guitarbob... don't catch an attitude with me. I told you I don't use it and therefore, what I do and how I work around it. Since I don't use it, that means I'm not familiar with HOW TO USE IT. That doesn't mean that someone else here can't come in and answer your question who does use it. Hang around and see if someone else can or will answer it for you.

Since they're MIDI and the Loop Explorer's outputs are audio, you can't. I remember a thread about this a few years ago, and something about choosing a soft synth output in the Preview Bus window of Loop Explorer, but it never worked for me. Still doesn't. Played around with it a little last night and just now; could not get sound from a MIDI sequence. Alternatively, the Help file (for SHS 6) says you can preview MIDI sequences from the File>Import MIDI dialog box. Just click Play in the box. But that didn't work for me, either. "SHS can't play this MIDI Sequence" is the message I got. Probably a Windows 7 thing.

That being said, the loop auto preview was working before and then it stopped working. This is not working and YOU ARE WRONG. The problem is everyone keeps giving "THEIR THOUGHTS ON THIS SUBJECT" - Instead of asking questions and assuming you know what's going on here. To make a long story short, "WITHOUT ANY HELP HERE, JUST EGO'S AND SMART ARSE ATTITUDES JUST FOR ASKING A QUESTION", I figured the problem out. I don't think you understand the question, no offense meant whatsoever. The bottom line is it was not a CORRUPT file or any problem on my end. It was a problem with the handling of files by the software itself, but I'm not going to say what because I'll just get slammed with more smart a** attitudes for saying so. GOD FORGIVE ME FOR SAYING SO BUT CAKEWALK MC5 IS NOT PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not new hear, and I've made no secret of it either. This forum is flawed I think everyone will agree on that much. Whatever, if you don't want me around here because I ask questions or have an opinion or like to try new things posting my music then I will never come here again. Damn shame, all I wanted to do and was so exited being able to get back into music and then I run into you self righteous judgmental egotistical forums users. Oh well. Whatever.............. I'm switching to Ableton because of these forums.

I asked a question, and you said more or less - "Maybe you should do like me and NOT USE THAT FEATURE" - AND I AM THE ONE WITH THE ATTITUDE??????? Are you standing on a pedestal while typing this crap or what? If you did not know then why respond in the first place with the response of more or less "Give it up". Are you aware that problems don't get resolved without being reported? This is a serious issue. Sony software doesn't have this problem. You are the one being an arse to me and yet you try and switch things around by saying I HAVE AN ATTITUDE simply because I asked a technical question......... UH, get off the holier than thou juice is my suggestion and take a deep breath and realize that if you don't know the answer then telling me I'm wasting my time for asking for information about a software that I paid for is the wrong thing to do. If it's in the program, it should work, plain and simple. You must work for cakewalk otherwise you wouldn't be so high strung on this issue, perhaps that's why it's not working. Whatever........ I'm done with this. And damn right, it's all your fault, I have been nothing but nice to everyone. Check my post and you will see. Adios, I'm moving on to Ableton

So, how did you get it to work? I could never figure it out, since I never got any MIDI outputs to select from, or soft synth outputs, etc. Please, I'd like to know how you did it; I might want to try it some day, and will be able to tell the next person who has this problem, since the time I spent trying to figure it out, for your knowledge and mine, was fruitless.

I have tried being friends with people here. All I get is "Ego's and Attitude's". Yeah I got it to work, I figured it out myself. And it's something that's going to come up in the future with this software, but considering the fact I was more or less chastised for asking a simple question with "Ego's and Attitude", I'm not saying. I will say, I am not kidding, this is a serious issue. Cakewalk can not compete with sony software in this area. "AND HELL NO I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY SOFTWARE COMPANY". Just thought I would say that before it gets said. Whatever the case, I was more or less treated like a child for asking a question "In an Adult Manner", I've resolved this problem, I bet the cake programers will fail on this issue because they will never find where the issue is. "Sorry no hints", I asked for help and was told I should just not use it. "Did the thought ever cross others minds that perhaps I purchased this software with that particular feature in mind for using it?". Whatever...........

What egos? What attitudes? I tried to help, had no luck, offered a possible alternative to previewing MIDI files that I found in the Help file, asked for your solution so I could pass it on to others in the future, and I get stonewalled? Say, you wouldn't be from Georgia, would you?

Say, you wouldn't be from Georgia, would you? When I am wrong, I'm wrong. I apologize. I was still a bit upset from the previous response I got. The answer "JUST DON'T USE IT" which I know you did not say is unacceptable to me, just plain RUDE also. And yes. You know who I am. I have no ill will or harsh feelings toward anyone here, although I do have a problem with some of the ego's and attitude's, especially when it's apparent that when somebody post a question in MC5 "They are considered a newbie". I'm not a NEWBIE. Had I have posted this in X1 forums I would have been laughed at. My suggestion is that in the future people don't assume that those who ask questions here are stupid or NEW to using the software. Once again I apologize, your right, you were trying to help and I saw red and didn't read your reply the right way. I still wont say how I solved the problem, it's going to come up again, but since I will not be coming back here and my cakewalk experience has been nothing but misery then I'm done with it. Load up a few bundle files, try auto preview, use an external to do so, that's a bit of a hint, but it's not the key. I do know a bit about programming and PC's, I guess everyone assumes I don't know nothing... Once again, I apologize to you, accept it or not, you are a nice person and I was flat out wrong with MY ATTITUDE. That doesn't excuse the other attitudes, but then again that has nothing to do with you. Best of luck!

Yes, he is. and maybe I should just move along with all the ranting in this thread, but I want to try to help in case someone else is reading this and wondering the same things. Bobby - I am pretty sure that this WILL work it has to do with having a softsynth loaded. I remember that from looking at the loop explorer. I've only ever used it the once or twice to see how it worked and now I don't have MC5 on my new computer. if I have time tonight and if you're still interested, I'll fire up the old computer and try to see what I can see about what it takes to make it work. if you move to Ableton then good luck to you.

well, guitarbob, if you're still around... I fired up the old computer and started MC5, but I forgot that I don't have a soundcard installed on this machine right now, so I can't confirm the problem, but I think what you're problem is would be that you don't have a softsynth loaded for the midi loops to play. that's what I suspected, but I wanted to check MC5 myself to verify that. in the left window pane (there are 3 pane sections in the loop explorer), that's where the loaded softsynths associated with the loop explorer are. if there are no softysynths there, or if the softsynth you have loaded does not have GM mapped triggering, then you won't hear anything when clicking on the PLAY button in the loop explorer (or if you have a non-GM softsynth then you might hear the wrong sounds). make sure there's a softsynth like TTS-1 loaded there. if not, click on the button for loading a softsynth and load TTS-1. then you should be able to select a MIDI loop and click on the play button to audition it.

Thanks you for the response, I want be back I promise after tonight. I've switched softwares as of now. All I did was ask a question and was told a smart alike remark saying "Perhaps you just shouldn't use it". That upset me, and then everybody else here started flaming me. Mostly people who I've never had nothing to say to but kind comments. So there you go, this proves my point : "Ego's and Attitudes". You really are a good person beagle - Reece, I have nothing but high praise for you, you've always been kind and helpful and I can't thank you enough for that. I have to switch daws now, I have no choice, I'm not welcomed here for voicing my opinion and nobody cares about what songs I post regardless. Doesn't matter to me either way, all I wanted to do was make some friends and collab and work on some tunes and things just didn't work out. It is what it is. Thanks for your kindness, people could learn a lesson from you. It wasn't just one comment, it was several and emails I kept getting making suggestions, but the bottom line is I asked for help and would do anything to help anyone on here and I got told "Just stop using it" as a response, I think that would upset anyone. Whatever the case. Take care........... I'm not coming back. I guess that makes you all happy.
