Question for BFD2 users
Hello. I have owned BFD2 for some time but struggled to come up with decent sounding drums because I have little experience. This is more of a hobby. Are there expansion packs out there that have more of a pre-processed sound than the pure unprocessed goodness of BFD samples that can be used within BFD2?

Try loading up one of the many presets that come bundled with BFD.
These have all been mixed within BFD and if you choose the sort of genre you're working in, you should find something usable
All of the expansion packs are completely raw & untreated, just like the stock BFD kits

I can't think of how to make BFD sound bad! As previously mentioned, start with a preset and see how they use the effects and EQ. At the end of this month I'll be upgrading ECO to BFD2 and I can't wait.

+1. The Glam Quick Pack is my favorite and by far most used kit, but it depends on what type of drum sound you are looking for. I use these for a variety of types, but my main use is hard rock and metal, which they are perfect for. Not to say they don't work in other styles though. A lot of the Platinum Samples packs seem to be a bit more mix ready than the stock BFD kits. I'd suggest hitting that link that Rail posted and give the demos a listen. You should find something there that fits the styles you are looking for and are a bit easier to dial in than the stock BFD kit.

You can't go wrong w/ anything that's got Joe Barresi's name on it. I have the basic ECO kit, but I'm looking forward to buying the Superior Drummer version.

You can't go wrong w/ anything that's got Joe Barresi's name on it. I have the basic ECO kit, but I'm looking forward to buying the Superior Drummer version.
Rain, I have the JB Evil Drums Superior kit. I was not overly impressed. That is not meant to mean they are not good. I was just not wowed like I was with say TT's Metal Machine or Americana. Even Slates CLA kit kinda wowed me. Maybe I'm just moving on from the Superior kits or my choices are getting too many.

The SD version is a premixed version of the kit... since SD3 doesn't have as many mix options as BFD... So it you're looking for the balance you hear in the SD3 version you're good... Which is the basic preset of the BFD version... In the BFD version you can obviously adjust the balances between the ambience and direct channels. Cheers, Rail

Remember that we haven't done final mixing to the Evil Drums Superior version.. although we did include some presets making use of the included effects... The EZX packs you mention have been mix processed and also include use of additional layering samples... We actually have fully mix processed versions of the Evil Drums kits for a future drum replacement product which will blow you away.... Not sure when those will be released since we're up to our eyeballs here in future product development. The Evil Drums are processed as a normal tracking date... which gives the greatest flexibility... If we did final Mix processing to them it would limit their usefulness. Our QuickPacks are more Mix Processed. Cheers Rail

Oh no Rail. Not another drum replacement product?
I already have two. It better be ultra-spectacular to get me as a customer. Maybe I'm a simple guy but drumagog works just how I like it and it can actually drive any other drum player to us its samples. That is what blows me away. Slate doesn't even do that. Also, drumagog does a reasonable job on hats (not 90% perfect but a fair 85% IMO).

Thanks - that's what I suspected. Meaning that I'd probably prefer the sound of the BFD version. I didn't hear the SD demos, but the sound of the ECO kit is exactly what I had in mind. I guess I may have to try and get used to BFD gradually.

I have JB's Evil Drums in both the BFD and SDX versions and I prefer the sound of BFD... I've been a long time user of Toontrack Superior since back in the stone age with the DFHS version and it's great,but these days I much prefer using BFD2... I still use S2.0 and many of the SDX's because they sit well in pop productions,but the sound compared to BFD is a little compressed and not as dynamic to my ears... I have most of the expansions for BFD2,but even the stock library is comprehensive and really useful... I can highly recommend BFD2 to anyone out there wanting great sounding drums in their tracks, but as has been stated here and on other forums,I would suggest getting the 24 bit files because they do sound different than the new 20 bit "diluted drums" :) And let's not get into another argument about 24 bit v 20 bit files please !
