Question on default inputs/outputs when inserting track in X1

So I just spent a half hour tearing out my hair because I thought I had some sort of audio/midi latency problem.  Every softsynth had ridiculous latency when I inserted it.  Checked the usual suspects and everything seemed fine.  The same thing happened in new projects, etc.

Turned out that every track I inserted was defaulting to an 'Echo' bus I had created in a  project template so every track was running through 193ms delay.  Reroute track to Master and latency problem solved.  So the real issue is how do I get new tracks to default to something different, say the 'Master' out when I insert?  I'm sure there's some option I'm missing here, maybe something I inadvertently changed when I created this template.

Along the same lines, when I insert any new softsynth the input defaults to 'none' and I have to select my midi input every time.  Minor annoyance but this was not the case in v8.5.3 as it defaulted to MIDI omni.   However it defaults to none by default ever since I installed X1 and now X1c.  Again, probably an option I'm missing somewhere.  I'll keep looking but I'm probably overthinking this and therefore missing the obvious solutions.

Thanks,
Jon

Well - to answer your first question...

Just right-click in the Master bus and choose "set as default". From that moment on every track created has the master bus as default output.

    Second question..

As far as I understood the "none" input is the same as "omni". This is confusing I must agree. This has been discussed here, but that was a while ago. You can try searching the forum...

The deal on this is that if you have Always Echo Current MIDI Track enabled in MIDI preferences, you cannot set the input to None; it will automatically default to Omni so that there is something to "Always Echo". If you disable Always Echo, you can set an input to None, and it will stay that way, and you will in fact get no input from any port.

I usually have Always Echo disabled, and I hadn't noticed the new MIDI tracks were defaulting to None for input. I'll have to check that (not at the DAW now).

I did a quick check, and I think the default Input follows the Always Echo setting. If enabled, the default input is Omni, and if disabled the default input is None.

Yes, I tested and am seeing the same behavior.

    Sure appreciate your help.

Incidentally, looks like there may be a bug in X1c where when you create a new bus by right-clicking an existing one, that right-clicked bus becomes the new Default Bus. This might explain how that delay bus became you default unexpectedly. Best to add new buses from the Insert menu, or by right-clicking in an empty area of the bus pane.

I thought I spotted another bug last night with busses.

I inserted a new bus in Console View, went back to track view, selected an existing track with the intention of routing it to the new bus, but the new bus didn't show up in the list of assignable busses. All of the others were there.

I went back to the console view just to make sure I hadn't lost any [more] brain cells, sure enough my new bus was there.

So back to track view, select the track, select the output dropdown and the new buss WAS there.

I didn't try to replicate it as I was too busy - just one to watch out for in the future.
