Question on splitting Step Sequencer clip

I have a drum track composed of step sequencer clips.  I'd like to split one of the clips and edit just the second half in the step sequencer.  When I split the clip and open up the second half, it shows the entire original clip.  Clicking "Unlink from Step Sequencer Clips" doesn't change this, nor does turning off "Groove Clip Looping".  Is there a different way to accomplish this?

Yay I see the 2017.1 update has a fix for "unexpected results while splitting step sequencer clips"!  Hopefully this addresses it!
