Questions about the new Sonar Platinum
Sorry for another thread, but I thought this deserve its own discussion. As someone who didn't immediately jump over to the Band Lab thing, a few questions: Are they keeping it updated as Windows updates come out? Secondly, can we still use Addictive Drums 2 with the new version even though it came bundled with the previous version of Sonar? What plugins WILL NOT work?

There won't ever be ANY new updates for Sonar Platinum. Cakewalk Inc. is gone, and SPLAT with it. Cakewalk by BandLab is basically the same in any case, with a bunch of bug fixes. I wouldn't worry though, older versions work absolutely fine. Cakewalk has always been good at keeping to "legal" Windows API functions. On my 32 bit machine, I'm still running Cakewalk Pro-Audio 9, Sonar XL, Sonar 3, Sonar 5, Sonar 7, Sonar 8.5, Sonar X1, Sonar X2, Sonar X3 and Sonar Platinum.

Addictive Drums 2 works fine with CbB, and was never tied to Sonar in the first place. All you got with Sonar was a bundled license (same with Melodyne). In both cases, you had to download the installers from the respective websites. An yes, they both work. TH3 comes with CbB. AAS doesn't come with CbB, but the Sonar editions work fine as does TruePianos. I've not encountered any bundled plugins or instruments that have refused to work so far.

Ok, thanks for the replies. Just another question: if there's no updates and, as Noel said in another thread, the Band Lab version is EXACTLY the same as the previous version - what the hell is the POINT of the Band Lab version? I'm not complaining, I'm just confused.

The Bandlab version is a continuation of Platinum. They are updating it pretty much every month and seem to really be going to town on fixing bugs and dealing with long requested issues. It isn't exactly the same as Splat because it doesn't include all the extra plugins that came with Splat, but at the moment you can install it without uninstalling Splat so you can use both. This also enables you to use all your Splat plugins in Cake. For the time being at least, if you uninstall Splat some of the Splat plugins will no longer be registered to work in Cake, so keep Splat installed and all will be fine. You can use both Splat and Cake on the same PC with no issues. So there really is no reason not to install Cake. It's just like having a more up to date version of Splat with a different name. Addictive Drums is not limited to Splat. You registered it at XLN Audio so you have a full license to use it with any DAW.
Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

Anything that worked in SPLAT works in Cakewalk by Bandlab.

They do have updates. You can even do colored console strips on the "dark" themes now, something many people never thought was going to happen with Platinum. You do need to have Plat installed to get some of the plugins bundled with Plat to work on Bandlab though.
