Questions on dongles and Arturia Spark Drums

Arturia (V Collection, Spark Vintage, etc..) is using Steinberg eLicenser while Melodyne Editor is using iLok - am I right ?

And both Arturia and Melodyne have options to activate the software on your hard disk or using the dongle and I understood the advantages / disadvantages - and you can move the hard disk activation (one way) to the dongle later.

Is there any other different type of dongle other than eLicenser or iLok ?

I've heard you can plug both eLicenser and iLok into a USB splitter to one port.. right ?

Which one do you prefers ? ..hard disk or dongle activation

I have both the Ilok and the eLicenser...neither bother me, and they both
reside in a 4 port USB hub without any issues...

Vienna Instruments also uses the eLicenser scheme for their products.

The major advantage to having them on the Dongle is you can have multiple
computers with similar configurations and just move the dongle(s) from
on to another.  Waves also allows you to use a USB License scenario for
    moving between PC's or Locations.

Here's an example.  I do most of my work here in my home studio.  I do most of my tracking
at the Band Studio.  So I can use the same plugins or software in both places, and merely
move the files and Dongles when in either place.  But don't lose the Dongles.  That's a
HUGE can of worms to open up.  Can be rectified, but will take some doing.

    Thanks cclarry.

Having the dongles seem like a good idea, instead of being limited to 3 installations that some vendors enforced.

The current Arturia V Collection is rather tempting.. I've purchased the Spark Vintage separately last month, but have not activated it (awaiting for the eLisencer). Just written to Arturia if they would let me exchange the Spark Vintage with something else.

I've edited the title slightly from "Questions on dongles" to "Questions on dongles and Arturia Spark Drums"

Arturia replied (following up on the current Collection promo), and I may have two options on my existing uninstalled Vintage Drum Machine license :

    1. I may sell the license.

    2. To exchange the Vintage Drum Machine with either Dubstep or EDM as they are the same price.

I'm thinking of option 2 with further questions :

    - Are the Vintage Drum Machine, Dubstep and EDM sound libraries and using the standard Spark software ? Or are there actual software differences, say Dubstep has it's special features that is different than the VDM or EDM ?

    - And I got further interested at the Spark Creative hardware  - does the hardware purchase comes bundled with any of the VDM, Dubstep or EDM sound ? Or one have to buy separately sound packs after getting the Spark hardware ?

Edit : I've read at the Spark Creative product page that it comes bundled with VDM, Dubstep and EDM sounds . Just need some confirmation that they are the same sound as the separate product. --Also there are the essential library for VDM, Dubstep and EDM, Hollywood expansion pack.. that further confuse the matter....

    Thanks in advance.

Most people here hate Ilok...they don't like the Dongle Model.

But, when you see how many "Cracked" versions of things there
are out there, it's easy to understand why the companies use it.

I prefer iLok to challenge response purely because I have 2 computers, a laptop for mobile and scratch work at home while I have another PC for the studio. ILok makes to easy to have secured software on 2 different computers and just move the dongle between them.

I agree...it just seems logical to me...
