Quick Tab issues

I've not really used Quick Tab before, But now I'm composing for several other guys who don't read standard notation very well (shakey fist) and I hit quick tab but I've run into a few problems.

1) Bass line has a six string tab. How do I fix that?

2) Guitar Tab is one octave above where it should be. The middle C (according to my quick tab) is played on 1st fret of the second string. But that's not middle C. Middle C should be third fret fifth string. So it's just octaving the whole thing. Anyone ever fix this? It wouldn't be so bad, but I'm trying to teach these guys notation, so I want to print both the notation AND the tab. But one of the two will be wrong. Please help.

    Whew... Solved it. Sort of.

    If you have this problem. Go to Edit>Layout. In the bottom half will be a blank dialogue box which if clicked on will say things like "4 string bass" "6 string guitar". Select "6 string guitar". Then click the "Define" button next to the box.

    There'll be a list of tuning and everything. Every note says something like 1st string "E 5", I switched it to "E 6", then it was 2nd string "B4" I switched it to "B5" and so on, adding one to each number. The tab then righted itself and adjusted. Whew... nailed it. Awesome. Not so hard actually.

    Now, however, for some reason, several notes are coming up as "*" instead of the number. No idea why.

    Fixed again.

    the problem was that "floating" gave it too much leway. So instead I convinced it to use a "fixed" position, but opening up all the frets with MASSIVE finger stretch. The problem now is that it expects me to play Chords on the 3rd and 16th frets simultaneously. This system is not grand. It needs some work.

    I can't help you with your issue but I can tell you why the guitar tab is an octave high.
     
    Both  "Learn How To Read Music Notation" type books I recently checked out from my local library state the standard method for writing guitar notation is one octave high when referenced to middle "C" on a standard, eighty-eight key piano keyboard.  Neither provided a reason but both both say the same thing.  The two books were published in two different countries (US & Great Britian) in two different decades (one in the eighties and the other in the nineties) so I feel confident Music Creator is following standard notation convention.
