Quick few questions about A-800PRO

Hi

I have a few questions about the A-800 Pro. I already have a PCR-800, but was wondering if I should upgrade.

I need to know the following:
Can you transpose +/- semitones? Not just by octaves like on the PCR-800.
Has aftertouch been improved? On the PCR-800 you have to force it a bit hard to get any results.
Also, are there any other major selling points that makes it a better choice over the PCR-800?

Thanks!

the bottom row of buttons on A800 has a transpose button, next to that are 2 octave buttons - octave up and octave down so yes you can transpose by semitones.

I can't really respond to the other part sorry as I've never owned a PCR-800 so I wouldn't be able to say whether aftertouch has been improved.

You set up transpose from the A-PRO's keyboard/ pad settings, where you can choose from -6 to +5. From the same place (keyboard/ pad setting), you can select from 4 different aftertouch curves for the keys and the pads.

To get to the keyboard/ pad setting, press the ACT button and the back button at the same time and use the value knob to highlight keyboard/pad settings, then click the value button to open the options. Keyboard/pad settings options are keyboard velocity curve, aftertouch curve, pad velocity curve, aftertouch curve (and other settings).

I've never owned a keyboard with aftertouch before so can't compare it to anything, but as you can adjust the aftertouch sensitivity, i'm sure you'll find a setting that suits.

    Hope that helps.

P.S. I just wondered, why would anyone use the transpose feature? Thanks.

I just wondered, why would anyone use the transpose feature? Thanks.
The transpose feature actually quite popular amongst keyboard players whose skills are a little rusty, such as myself I use my MIDI keyboard more as a convenient input device than a musical instrument, and therefore I don't care too much about being familiar with all the scales. In fact, I am only familiar with the C major scale (all the white keys). If I want to play along to a melody that uses a scale other than C major I would have some serious trouble. Luckily, the transpose feature enables me to shift the keyboard up or down so that any scale--major or minor--can be played with just the white keys.

    A. Thomas Tran metric keyboard is an interesting prototype piano keyboard layout which requires players to master just 2 scales instead of 12. However, the advantage of the standard piano keyboard in my opinion is that, because it has more white keys than black keys, naturally the white keys are used more than the black keys, which makes sense because the white keys are wider and therefore easier to hit, thus making the keyboard more forgiving in terms of accuracy.

I think Novation and M-Audio keyboards have better implementations of semitone transpose i.e. more easily accessible.
