QuickFix - Next up?
The main two items that I wanted Cake to fix HAVE BEEN FIXED. So, what's next on the agenda for Quickfix? Personnaly, X1(b-244) works for me...nothing I need fixed. What do you want Cake to fix in the next QuickFix release? For that matter, I wonder if there will be another QuickFix release or even an X1(c)? Hmmm...maybe the next stop is X2?

1: I don't personally use the Staff view, but I understand it has been broken with some of the latest updates (X1b or Quickfix I think). I think those users deserve a quick fix to get that working again. 2: There is the known problem of the track interleave not retaining it's settings under certain conditions. 3: There seem to be a few other issues (actual bugs, not just a dislike for the interface or workflow) that some users are having. I want to see all "known" bugs fixed before they fully move on to X2. Why should any X1 owner have to buy X2 for a bug fix (same can be said for all prior versions of Sonar I guess)? Even if none of these bugs bother me now, they may in the near future. Not to mention - shouldn't Sonar be as stable as possible before moving forward? Just my 2 cents. EDIT: Keep in mind that although my post may seem like I am dumping on CW and X1 - nothing could be further from the truth. I have had good success with X1, and like most things about it. I just think it still needs some improving before they move on to the next product

I think this is where a lot of long term Sonar users are at. It is not negativity, it is a desire to finally have a bug free version of Sonar before moving on to X2. Also, the User Interface of X1 still needs improving upon, but some of that can wait until X2.

I know what I'd like as a feature. Working in the PRV with the Track Browser on the right hand side, wouldn't it be great if you could just right-click in a blank area and select/deselect the tracks you want to be visible there. Instead we have to select the Tracks menu, then select Pick Tracks, then select individual tracks. That would be at least 2 less clicks for each & evey time you want to edit Midi data.

codamedia ...Even if none of these bugs bother me now, they may in the near future. the next product I'm with you 100% on this item. The idea that what you don't know won't hurt you is bunk! I'd hate to be rolling on long in a project with MANY invested hours of work, thinking that I'm on a rock solid platform, and suddenly have everything brought to a screeching halt because of a bug I didn't know about but that Cake DID. Man, that would really lite my fire!!! Yeah, it would be cool to get the known bugs fixed even if they aren't "bug'n" me...yet.

Hey Jonesey - I think you can do this already (almost). Select every MIDI track (be nice if there was a quick way, but you only have to do this once). Hit Alt-3 to open every midi track in the PRV. Make sure the track pane is visible (top item in the View menu). Now use the Tracks menu to hide all tracks, and then select which tracks you want visible from the track pane on the right. There are two problems with this: the first is a big one. Look at the controller pane at the bottom - it's a mess! It should only show the visible track controllers. It seems to show them all! I hide it. You can use the Notes menu to Show Velocity, so you can see the velocity in the PRV pane itself. Also tick "Show velocity for the selected track only". You can also tick "Show velocity on selected notes only", which cleans things up a lot. The other problem is if you add another MIDI track. For this you need to add the new track manually using Pick tracks. Cheers, Peter.

My number one next quickfix would be showing the zoom rectangle in the track view. You can use "Z" to drag a rectangle in the track view that zooms in on exactly this region. In 8.5.3 this rectangle is visible while dragging, in X1 you have to guess where it is. Cheers, Peter.

The method they use to disable the prochannel when freezing a track is actually quite glitchy/buggy, and more complex and restrictive than necessary. I'd like to see them change it to simply "when freezing a track, disable the prochannel modules as if someone physically clicked on the disable buttons in the GUI" Built-in keybindings aren't highlighted properly when you go into the edit keybindings dialog -- annoying for those who like to customize. Also there's some old bugs that I first noticed in 8.5 regarding how clips are displayed when dragging them around when there's a lot of tempo mapping and you're zoomed in a lot, but I guess that's too obscure as I've reported it for several versions and it's still not fixed :P I'd also like to see some polishing up of the performance of the matrix view, and some additional gui tweaks to both it and the step sequencer.

Last thing I read from Cakewalk on this said they'd be issuing a series of X1? updates. I certainly hope that's true - meters in the Inspector go dead sometimes, other flaky things happen. X1c... X1d... whatever it takes please.

And while we're in there, does PRV really have to dedicate 1/2 the vertical space to controllers when no controllers are present? Do I really have to Fit MIDI Notes every time? Can we fix the vertical divisions on the left - note names - so they don't mismatch the note grid on random occasions? Why can't I select all notes of a certain pitch by clicking on the note name anymore? Sigh...

1. Make the Q in the Pro Channel adjustable with the mouse wheel like Sonitus EQ is. 2. Stop Track Interleave from changing with no input from the user. It's not smart enough to know when I put a stereo effect on the track. [PLEASE FIX THIS :( I've reported it a couple of times. 3. Put 'Phase' and 'Interleave' icons back on each individual track. (There's plenty of room) 4. Make track view default to 'All' instead of 'Custom'. It's such a pain in the but. Did they assume nobody ever puts FX in the FX bin and wouldn't need to see it? Something in this last quick fix has caused X1 to have very frequent audio engine dropouts and clicks/pops when I'm adjusting FX settings now. This never happened to me before the quick fix. I've been trying really hard but I just can't get used to the smart tool. :( I had to read the manual to figure out how to do a simple fade between clips last night. So much has changed it's like learning a new DAW that's not laid out in a logical manner.

Me, I'd like a fix to the step sequencer's bugs regarding MIDI CCs being lost in the daughter SS clip if you unlink a clip, and any CC data being lost from MIDI clips if you convert them to SS. That would make my life much easier.

Build 245: Console view won't stay undocked. Any time you close it and re-open it appears in the dock. Total pain when you have gobs of screen real estate. Alt-2 works only sometimes - or hardly ever is closer to the truth. Sometimes if you click on the Inspector first, Alt-2 will work. Try undocking and then minimizing the console. Where's your Alt-2 now? On Windows 7, where did the window go??? (yes, I found it) PRV STILL opens without doing a Fit Midi first - hardly ever get to see my notes without doing extra clicks. Why does the controller pane have to take up so much space on open? Even when there's no controller data? Every time I open this view I've got to reset all this crap before it's usable. And it won't remember that it was previously maximized if you close it. So if you use monitor #2 for a maximized console 1/2 the time, you've got extra clicks every time you close/open it. This is stuff that makes small tasks annoyingly larger - which makes my lazy ass skip over clean-up tasks I would otherwise address. Getting a better personality is tough, so I'm putting my hope on #246.

Now I'm stuffed. Build 244 left X1b quite unstable for some reason with lots more freezes and crashes. I restored my system and got back to normal and wasn't too bothered because the 244 fix only fixed one slightly annoying bug. Now I really could do with a couple of the fixes in 245 but it has 244 included in it and that's not good for me. I think maybe I'll hold off on the quick fixes and wait for a major update and see how that goes. At least I'm getting by at the moment.
