Quizzical BCF2000 performance...

I use my BCF2000 with traditional Controller/Surfaces setup. (My understanding is that ACT isn't bi-directional, hence no flying faders, yes?)

The BCF2000 has the latest drivers, etc. I'm using it in the Sonar mode, so its display reads "NCSo" on startup.

In "Controllers/Surfaces" I have it set for "Mackie Control" (not "Mackie Control C4" or "Macke Control XT").

I open Sonar. No changes. Then I open a project. As soon as I do, these things happen:

The display changes from "NCSo" to something like "Er," but in the LED, the top segment of the "E" is missing, if that makes sense. (I suppose it could also be "br" with the outside loop segment of the "b" missing.) If I had to guess, it's telling me it just had a MIDI overrun? If it's an error message, why can't it make a proper Er? :-)

The faders fly to position.

The upper-right LED of the Encoder Groups buttons turns on.

The Learn LED comes on.

The lower-left LED of the bottom four buttons turns on.

Aside from that, it SEEMS normal, but I'm still learning this thing.

One more thing, but I suppose I should RTFM for this. I can right-click a track and get the "Move Mackie Control - 1 here" message. It will work, but then those settings are not saved with the project. Next time I open that project it reverts to whatever settings it had in the first place, which seem to be random.

Does all of this sound weird to you?

Use the "Search" function on this forum for BCF2000. You'll find that all your questions are waiting to be answered.

They weren't. Or rather, it wasn't. I should have been more succinct. I only had the one question. Is this the way it's supposed to be? After futzing around more with the template et. al., I think the answer is "yes." Seems to be able to control a heck of a lot and all the shifted and unshifted buttons seem to do what they are supposed to.

Still, I wish I knew what that almost "Er" symbol means. So far, most of the LED readouts are mysterious, except the few that are explained in the manual. Pretty cool device, though.

I think you're right! I'm starting to make sense of it, now. It's going to be really hard to break the mouse habit, but I think this thing is going to be pretty useful....
