RESOLVED: Forum not marking read threads as read

Back in the bad old days, if you clicked on a forum thread to read it, it got marked as read (bold font changed to normal font).  I don't see that happening any more.  Is that just the way it is now?

Using Google Chrome on WinXP but Firefox acts the same way.

I get that occasionally - including once last night - but it still works 99% of the time for me here.  I DO have similar issues in other forums though...  Wish I knew what causes it.

My failure rate is 100%.   I don't think I have any issues with other forums though.

It only half works for me. If I've been away from the forum for long enough (like a few hours), it only marks around 50% of my unread posts in bold.

Maybe something got fixed? I switched back to Firefox a few days ago and now the forum threads are marked as read as expected. I like that!!

Lots of unexplainable things going on w/ this forum.

This morning, it seems I can post using Safari.
    Yesterday, I couldn't.
    The day before, it worked...

And that's ONE thing out of many which seem to happen randomly, including read thread marked as unread and vice versa.

EDIT: Woooohooo - I can even EDIT messages! :P

I frequently see the opposite problem: a thread that's 4 hours old and isn't bolded even though I'm certain I haven't read it.

Has anybody ever mentioned how crummy this forum software is?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Tough to say resolved... 3 topics that I started or last replied on in the past 2 or so hours are bolded. That's pretty wacky.

Since I'm the OP, I decided it was RESOLVED for me! You all are on your own!! :) Actually I won't be surprised if the issue I originally described shows up again. Things do tend to come and go on this forum. -- Larry

Don't be surprised if it does - this morning, once again, I cannot post or use links using Safari. Every other day, I get such issues w/ it.

soens, I assume you know that the forum software tracks (via a cookie?) when you were last logged in. Posts that happened before then, whether or not you've read them, are unbolded. I guess that's and indication that they are in the ancient past!
