RESOLVED Plug In Manager Scan keeps crashing

What is the likeliest cause of this? My Plug In Manager keeps crashing when I scan or attempt to.
What can I do to "improve" this?
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Create a scan log and see if you can figure out when it is crashing. To create the log, hold the SHIFT key while clicking the scan button. The log is written to "%AppData%\Cakewalk\Logs"

Haha! So, I held Shift and clicked Scan..... it scanned without crashing and managed to find a couple plugs, that I was trying to sort out why they weren't showing up! LOL
I like this trick....Steve! It might prove to be quite handy.

Seriously, I will try it a few times and post back. I am not sure that  I'd know where to find the
%AppData%\Cakewalk\Log%, though. I ran a search and nothing came up. That was my best guess, too! LOL

I mistyped the path, the should be %AppData%\Cakewalk\Logs
To resolve the path, type it in Windows Explorer like this

 Notice Windows completing the path

Thanks Steve
I've tried your suggestion a number of times (just now) with variations and I get

Windows can't find 'C:\Users\MichaelAnnMarie\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\Logs'. Check the spelling and try again.

which I did and experimented with the spelling, but no joy, yet.

Can you change to
C:\Users\MichaelAnnMarie\AppData\Roaming\
This is what %AppData% is expanding to on your machine
There should be a Cakewalk folder which contains the Logs and SONAR folders.

Yeah! That worked. I scrolled down to Cakewalk and there are 8 folders.
ACT Data
Command Center
DrumReplacer
Library
Shared Presets
Sonar Platinum
Sonar X3 Producer
VSTBitmapCache

I went through the last one and nothing was newer than last year, so I'll keep looking....
The Sonar Platinum folder has some from today, but I am not sure what I'm looking for...

When creating a scan log there should be a TOAST message in the bottom right of the screen like this

with the path to the log file.

That isn't happening.
I have my SPLAT set to scan on start up and only see the Toast (didn't know it was called that) then... when it's done. I've been opening Plug In Manager and clicking on Scan VSTs, while holding Shift.

Should I change the scan setting?
I'll try that next.....

I do not use the plug-in manager for anything to do with the VST scanner. For years Cakewalk has recommended using Preferences > VST Settings. There is a scan button on that preference page. I am not sure what happens if the scanner cannot create the file. You may need to create the Logs folder manually.

I am doing the scan now from there (1st time) and the Toast is open/running  (I did hold Shift).
Got it  .... the location is there!  Now what do I do with it? LOL

The bonus for me in all this is I have finally gotten all of my plugs available! LOL

So I only need this scan log if it crashes  ... next time?

When I insert FX, and notice two of the same plug.... I assume one is 32 bit (which I probably shouldn't have installed. Can I uninstall them? safely?)     and the other is 64bit. Is the top one consistently one or the other?

I promise never to run the Plug In Manager again.......... LOL

Let's hope there is no next time. I don't know if the log will help with a crash or not but it is worth trying.

When I install both 32 and 64bit plug-ins I put the 32bit plug-ins in a path not in my SONAR VST path. The few 32bit plug-ins I use with SONAR I put in the default 64bit scan path (C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins).

Usually when a plug-in installs as both 32bit and 64bit all you need to do is delete the 32bit dll, the rest is shared between the two plug-ins. Alternately, uninstall the plug-in entirely and re-run the installer for the 64bit plug-in only.

The plug-in manager is useful for checking excluded plug-ins and maintaining custom layouts. While both SONAR and the plug-in manager call the same scanner program, Cakewalk recommends using SONAR to run the scanner.
