RESOLVED - Sonar X1 Producer - not letting me add MIDI Intrument
Believe it or not, after having upgraded from Sonar 8.5 PE to X1 PE MANY months ago, I never noticed that my MIDI Synth keyboard (an Alesis QS7) was not picked up in the upgrade, and nothing I do seems to get it enabled. I have been working with others who have done instrumentals and I was adding vocals - collabs - so, I didn't notice until lately when I tried to lay in some new piano tracks, that my X1 has NO MIDI Instrument settings. SO OK, seems easy enough (and I looked up the help), I'm in Edit \ Preferences \ MIDI \ Instruments. Under the left panel (Output/Channel) it is totally empty. Under the right panel (Uses Instrument) there are the typical entries beginning with <default>, General MIDI, General MIDI Drums, etc - however the "Define" button below the panels is grayed out and disabled. How am I supposed to Add in a new MIDI Instrument device then? Am I missing some other option? Appreciate anyone's help, thanks ! ~ John

You need to get the 64-bit driver for your MIDI interface whatever that is. The QS7 doesn't have a USB port.

Wow, thanks for the speedy help guys - I just got it fixed and working now, but darned if I'm sure exactly WHAT actually did it. Apparently something "resynched" when I went to Preferences \ Configuration File and clicked the "Reload Config Settings". It did something, displayed my Edirol interface ports, and audio driver settings, and then lo and behold when I went back to MIDI Instruments, it had filled in the panel on the left side, for Output/Channel, and on the right, the "Define" was enabled. From that point, I was able to go and browse to my Alesis INS file which allowed me to Import all my Alesis QS7 settings. WHEW. All set now, and many thanks for your helpful tips as well! - John

daveny5 I believe the interface you have is the UA-4FX not what you have in the profile. You can get the 64-bit driver for it at http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=UA-4FX Dave, you are correct, I use the Edirol UA-4FX, and I think I have been using the 32-bit driver due to other add-on incompatibilities with the 64-bit. I actually have installed Sonar X-1 twice, first in 64-bit (and I had issues with some plug-ins) and so again in 32-bit mode. I have not had any problems though, running in 32-bit mode (that I know of) but I have downloaded the 64-bit driver you pointed me to, thanks! I'll keep in handy; I'm not sure if i want to go back to 64-bit mode (yet), and may wait until X-2 PE upgrade to tackle that again. Oh and thanks, I wil edit my profile signature to be accurate. Much appreciated!
