Will I be able to log in to the new forum?

;-)

Well of course you will need to update to the newest version of "mike_mccue" first in order to work properly with it.

But I've been told that it's a quick and painless upgrade.

Will the new McQ have more 'British' characteristics?

I did not know that a screwdriver was 'British'.

I have a full set of 1950's Snap On Whitworth wrenches.

Dad used to have a MG TD.

I'm hoping FBB will tell bapsi what that means.

My understanding is that the forum will be receiving a more over-arching and significant overhaul and that the upgrade requires resources that are being dedicated towards that (and other) endeavors, rather than being directed at something that will be a moot point. Unfortunately, I don't have anything more at this time.

For now, the best bet is to use IE or Chrome (and maybe others) to participate on the forum.

FWIW: Just know that the issue is recognized, understood, and that the MO is not to just ignore it, even if it might seem that way.

So we're just supposed to suffer while it takes who knows how long to fix this? I remember the last time the forum software got worked on that brought us this version. It was pathetic then and I doubt anyone here believes it will be any better this time (assuming you have the same people doing the work).

Can't use IE on a Mac and I'm not going to load up Chrome to do this one forum. And Safari is plain awful to work with.

I can't find the thread now, but I had inquired some time ago about the forum software and brought up the fact that there is a free update to the forum software that Cakewalk could install to fix all the problems. I forget who responded from Cakewalk, but they said that the forum software has been customized so much the free patch wouldn't work so they can't update it. Or something very close to that. I can't find the thread now, but it's out there if anyone wants to go look for it.

So basically, they can't fix it is what I got out of it.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

The other thing ... make sure you have the latest Java updates. I haven't had a single 500 ERROR or lag at all since I updated Java ...

Is there a question here somewhere?

I have one.

Do you really feel you are suffering? When you read that back does it strike you as a bit overwrought?

If you are asking me if you are "just supposed to suffer while it takes who knows how long...", then I'm not sure how to answer that. I can tell you this: If installing Chrome relieved any suffering on my part, I'd do it. It takes about 2 minutes.

One might also argue the following: If you can't use two of the options available to you because of Apple - have you considered that perhaps Apple is causing your suffering?

You just don't get it do you? Why should the end user (us forum posters) have to use another browser because Cakewalk can't be bothered to fix what's broken to begin with? Why not climb off your high horse or out of your ivory tower and try and see it from our point of view? I don't think I'm being overwrought. I and others just want this fiasco fixed which should have been done months ago. No other forum I subscribe to (and there's plenty - like the DUC, Propellerheads and others) have these kinds of problem we see here.

Let me put it this way: if I had been responsible for the way this forum software works I would have fixed it ASAP or gotten someone on the job who knows what they are doing.

Don't assume you speak for everyone Jack.  your use of "our" here is not all inclusive.

FWIW - I read one of the cake staff say (Willy maybe?) that cake's IT had made "customizations" to the ASP software which would cause major problems if they "upgraded" to the version which would allow FF to work with the forum.  A new forum package is coming sometime, apparently.  there is a workaround available for 99% of users.  if that's not a viable option then I'm sure cakewalk is disappointed they can't help you but that's life.

Let me put it this way: if I had been responsible for the way this forum software works I would have fixed it ASAP or gotten someone on the job who knows what they are doing.

Allow me put it to you this way:

1) It wasn't "broken to begin with". FF made a change and it broke, recently. It worked for years prior to that (albeit with issues - yes).
2) The idea of me on a "high horse" or, especially, "in an ivory tower" is just silly. I mean it's literally laughable.
3) I (me, myself) after moaning a bit switched to Chrome exactly for this reason (at first). I have three browsers on my system. A lot of corporate systems and CMS editors, etc only work properly with IE. It's the way it is with a lot of web based systems I come across. If I suffered every time somethiing wouldn't work with a particular browser I'd probably be taking a dirt nap by now. Instead I just load the one that works and get on with movin' on.

So, I think I get it just fine. I think what perhaps you don't get is that you don't always have enough information to make intelligent commentary on a subject, and secondly, that you should arguably be more concerned with the fact that  issues on a free peer-to-peer forum can be characterized. with a straight faced,  as"suffering" - with all that goes on in the world.  It can't help but suggest to that me that a certain level of perspective is just not present in this conversation.

Oh I've got enough info to make an intelligent & informed decision and at this point that is: I don't give a rat's patootie anymore and Cake personnel don't care. Why should I put up with something that's a hassle to deal with? Life's too friggin' short to do that, so I'm outta here on a permanent basis. You're entrenched in your position and don't mind putting up with what's happened to the way this forum works. Like I said in another post: this is the only forum of many that I participate in that has these kinds of problems and refuses to fix them (or is at least dragging their feet on fixes). Delete me, ban me - I don't care anymore. Used to be fun but that has long past.

Maybe it's the Jersey attitude where we don't put up with BS? If so, I'm proud of it and have no regrets.

If I could post on my mobile device I'd post more often.

Just Saying.

OK so no mobile compatibility - ever!

J/K - same for me.

Seems to work fine on my mobile device...

(Every shake brings up a new post from Bapu though...)

As seen perusing a Bapu and Bouy post no less!

Nothing but the best for me!  The rest aren't worth two shakes.

Have you ever actually seen the profit margin on hot cakes?

It's not all that good...

LOL! I'm talking about quantity here. We'll have to set our own profit margins. Pass the maple syrup please.
