REVISED MIXBUS32C might sound "better" but everything else getting better
EDIT I just updated to V4 all my issues are now non issues I am happy I purchased it for $99 partly because of the buzz and the price, but I am finding it a PITA and wonky. If I ever get to record or import something i can comment on its fabled sound. The GUI-lots or real estate and no way to resize other than the "maximize" menu choice, I tried changing my screen resolution but I dont want to change just for one app. Control Surfaces- every time I start MB it forgets the port assignments for my Mackie pro, sometimes it even loses the mackie ports to choose from, Sonar doesnt do this.I have to restart MB for it to find the mackie ports. Midi/VST -insert an instrument is easy enough but they wont play, I see midi activity on the gui and in the instrument but no sound. If I accept the default synth it inserts then insert my vst it will play, some kind of pinout thing I am trying to figure out. Menu choices are hazy- I was missing the other 8 mixbus busses until i found the convoluted way to enable/show tracks and busses.Even then the mixer page is crowded and no way to resize the strips like sonar does. VST scan-I will give it this it is better than sonars PI manager and doesnt crash like sonar does. Speaking of crashes- lots of vst instruments crash MB. This is how far i got before I shut the PC off.

MB has it's own internal sizing of the GUI. You don't need to change your windows screen resolution. Granted I have a 30" monitor and it looks good for me, but it also looks pretty good on my 27" monitor connected to my laptop.

Interesting. I'll admit I haven't done a lot with Mixbus, but then again, my plan all along was to start projects in Sonar then move audio stems into MB. In any case, I'll keep an eye on developments in case I ever decide to use MB as a MIDI workstation.

If you look at it as a plugin disguised as a daw, you might feel better about it..

Or, how about "it's a console, with some limited MIDI fluff you may or may not use"?

Link to online manual for preferences http://www.harrisonconsoles.com/mixbus/mixbus3-live-manual/1/en/topic/preferences-window actual place to change your settings ...notice the GUI tab is engaged ...you may need to change the mixer strip scale Kenny

I suspect that's how most users view it. Of course, I may be wrong. But I do think it's a bit unrealistic to expect Mixbus to rival Sonar in MIDI/VST handling when the latter's VST hosting has evolved over what, 20 years? (I'm not including the pre-VST decade before that). I'm all for consolidating and streamlining wherever possible; I just don't see the benefit of forcing MB to be a MIDI workstation when that's just not where it excels. For example, I currently use Sonar (MIDI production), Mixbus 32C (Audio mixing. Just recently, still in testing mode), then finally Studio One 3 Pro (for its excellent Project-Mastering page). Again, using the best (IMO) tools for each job. Now, while I don't see myself ever dumping Sonar for Mixbus' MIDI capabilities, I could easily imagine retiring S1 3 Pro if MB were to ever add a solid Project-Mastering feature-set.

Jon, I think that is how I might revise my view and workflow. With the exception of owning Studio 3 for mastering (Ozone or Neutron may bear experimenting for me. This will involve learning more about creating Stems and export from Sonar and import into MB, but its fun and informative and a great learning experience.
