RIP Brian Cober... double slide virtuoso and great all 'round human

Just chatting with a friend from home and apparently my good buddy and brilliant bluies guitar player/musician/dood passed from cancer. Here's a youtube of a studio track that shows some stills of his wacky double slides...

I'll see if I can scrounge up a decent live vid that shows those slides in action. I was hoping to find some of him playing with his band The Nationals but so far it's mostly vids of his open jam stuff.

Anyway... RIP Brian. He wasn't nearly as famous as he should have been but an awesome, influential (in TO) blues musician and sooper nice guy.

Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays.

Cheers!

Sorry to hear about your buddy Beepster.

The holidays are tough enough without added sadness. Hope you still manage to have a good Christmas and take some time to reflect.

Regards, John

Here's a 20+ min interview with Brian that includes a live solo performance (which is what he was doing when I first met him as an 18 yo puke monkey).

This is CLASSIC Brian. The interviewers are completely vapid, clueless and at some points kind of offensive yet Brian stays totally cool and on topic. Honestly, I knew the guy for 20 years and there has RARELY been a moment when I didn't see a friendly smile on his face. I can tell these jabbering ninnies were ticking him off. lulz...

BUT he describes his style and custom slides and blasts out a great solo performance which (in true "Market" fashion) culminates in a busted string on the last couple notes. Heheh.

Yeah. Havin' one fer you, homeslice!

Thanks, John. It's sad as hell in a "the good always die young" kind of way but I'm alright. He did great things AFAIAC even if he never really hit the big time and as noted he was always happy. Just lovin' playing guitar and doing what he did. One of those "pure music" type guys. Maybe I'll see if I can scrounge up any recordings the oldsters have and make sure they stay in print or at least get documented online.

You may have even met Mr. Cober or worked on his rigs.

Anyhoo... happy holly holz to you, John.

Cheers.

Found another good acoustic one...

Very disappointing that there aren't any proper "The Nationals" vids up with him ripping on his tele. Before the bass player died they really were ultra tight. Not sure why that stuff is not online. I may have to harass some folks to make that happen.

Anyhoo... I hope ya'll had a happy and safe X-mas.

Peace, love and snickerdoodles. Looking forward to a good NY.
