RIP Ferlin Husky

I just found out today that Ferlin Husky passed away last month on March 17th.

I went to Branson Missouri with my wife's family for Thanksgiving 9 years ago and I found out he was doing a show at the Boxcar Willie Theater. Everyone laughed at me but oh well, for $15 and free breakfast before the show, how could I go wrong? :)

After the show he went out in the front foyer of the theater and was signing autographs. We talked for about 15 minutes or so and he asked where I was from and I told him I grew up in Northern New Jersey. He knew the town where I lived and said he'd been through there many times. He named a bunch of places he played in the tri-state area and asked if they were still there. One of the places I had played at and it was not a big place at all. I think things were a lot different back then.

He sold over 20 million albums and Elvis opened for him. Not many can say that.

"I pulled the head off Elvis, filled Fred up to his pelvis, yaba daba do, the King is gone, and so are you."
