RIP Lemmy :(
As per Motorhead's Facebook page... There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family. We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD. Have a drink or few. Share stories. Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself. HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT. Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister 1945 -2015 Born to lose, lived to win.

If you'd seen the documentary "Lemmy" from a few years back you could kind of see it coming. It wasn't like he was "dying" but he did not seem well and some of the stuff he said was definitely like "I'd better say this before I kick it". The bit with his son was pretty heavy.

Seeing how many shows were cancelled or interrupted after a few songs this last tour, I can't say that I am all that surprised. He really didn't look well. But he lived the life and stayed true to himself until the end. That documentary was actually very, very sad.

I thought it was actually a little condescending at points. Like they were judging some of the sh*t he did. He was a hardcore from the 70's. Things were WAY freaking different back then. Still a good watch though.

I still remember listening to Motörhead's self-titled debut for the first time and thinking these guys were on to something new. It wasn't 'quite' metal, it wasn't 'quite' punk. It was, quite simply, Motörhead. As the man himself always described his creation, "We are Motörhead, and we play rock and roll". Thank you for the rock and roll Lemmy.

Rubbish news. I had the good fortune of meeting Lemmy and the band in my travels and I have to say that when he walked into the room, every single person there would just stop and have that "wow, it's him" look on their face. I think Dio (RIP) was the only other guy I saw that ever happen with. Just an incredible presence. The world has gotten just that bit quieter, and less gritty. RIP.

I miss The Young Ones. That was broadcast in the days before we had a VCR and my brother and I used to tape the audio by standing a ghettoblaster next to the TV. We wore those tapes out listening to the episodes over and over, and we didn't even need the picture to appreciate the humor because we could remember every detail from watching it the first time around. That Motorhead episode was my favorite - usually we'd fast forward past the musical interludes but Lemmy never got skipped. I liked the one with Madness as well. Next day in school after an episode of The Young Ones was, as you can imagine, complete chaos.

Almost forgot about this, it's a bluegrass version of The Ace Of Spades with me on banjo. Recorded sometime around the turn of the century on a crappy old four track on an ultra-cheap mic in a small attic with terrible acoustics, with no mixing to speak of, just a bunch of stoners having some fun. What I mean to say is, don't expect much from the sound, it's pretty terrible lol..... ...or the playing for that matter, we were all pretty caned and I'd only been playing the banjo for about a month so my attempt to improvise a "solo" was pretty lame to say the least. But I think we captured a vibe... Incidentally, we had a top notch drummer here, my friend Martin, who was in the legendary Baghdaddies for many years and played with Sting not so long ago.
