If it only affects the stand along mode, I can live with that and without Quick Time(which is already gone).
I assume that IK and Celemony etc et al will have to make some adjustments and we'll all have to live with that.

With regard to the question that triggered such a loving response - I don't have any more information than what I posted.  Perhaps IK Support will:  http://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support/mi/

AmpliTube 4 does not require QuickTime so it is no longer an optional component during the install process.  For T-RackS, however, it is used for importing MP3 files in the standalone version so if you remove QuickTime on your Windows system you will no longer be able to do so.

Years ago, a developer could pretty much count on the presence of Quicktime on a user's system, Mac or Windows. I'm going to guess that, based on your statement, that the Quicktime method for importing MP3s saved either the licensing cost for an MP3 codec or requiring the user to separately install the LAME codec (which I've done plenty of times, anyway).

If that's the case, hopefully, a simple mod to use the LAME codec could add that capability back, since we know that Quicktime for Windows is gone for good.

This situation isn't going to affect my enjoyment of all my IK stuff. I'll just do other stuff if there's a problem.

OK, I uninstalled QT yesterday, and today I opened a project with Addictive Drums in it, and found they were no longer recognized.  This was true in both my cwp. files and my cwb. files, as well as my backup files.  So, I did a system restore to the day before I uninstalled QT, and now my AD files show up again.  Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, is there a way to make that not happen again?  Grateful for any advise.

All the best,
Lynn

Since AmpliTube 4 is newer than T-RackS 4 (even if we've updated or will update soon, I mean the base 4.0 version that it is built upon was out before AT4) it does make sense that AT4 would be the product that no longer needs QuickTime.  However, I really don't have specific information but I did relay the QuickTime demise to the teams responsible for both products so if anything they are aware and I'm hoping the next iteration of the section where you import audio in T-RackS is similar to that functionality in AT4 and can evolve.  I just don't have all of the specifics at this point and could be making a couple of assumptions so I'll keep asking.  Oh, the point was also that if anybody does also ask support that they too would relay the concern and get an idea of how many people utilize the standalone to process MP3s and decisions can be made accordingly.

I'm on Mac and typically only import WAV files into the standalone but I'll also continue to inquire about this issue, of course.

I have been remodeling all day and just opened a project to check. Everything seemed fine. AD2 showed up and played, though I didn't try any IK stuff. Hopefully in the morning before, I get back to redoing my breezeway, I'll explore some more.

So, I uninstalled QT7 and am thinking I don't need to keep Apple Updater, nor Apple  Application Support, either, correct?

That would depend if you have anything needing Bonjour.  It's a midi over lan type thing.

QuickTime's demise may be more abrupt than we expected. The Department of Homeland Security has issued an urgent bulletin urging all users to uninstall QT immediately. Within government agencies, this will likely be treated as more than a suggestion. I'm guessing the army and navy aren't big Rhyme Genie users.

I've been in contact with Idolumic (Rhyme Genie/TuneSmith) today. After uninstalling QT, TuneSmith throws up a couple of error messages (24U SimpleSound extension can't load; and then a second one prompting for a QT download). Deleting or renaming the extension (SimpleSound.fmx.renamed) in TuneSmith's Extensions folder gets rid of the first error message (that was thrown by the extension), but the second (thrown by TS) remains.

I'll update when I know more.

UPDATE: I got an email from Idolumic this morning stating that an update to the Windows version of TS that adds an option to disable audio recording should be out in a week.

At least that'll get rid of the error messages...until they (hopefully) come up with a permanent solution that provides audio recording support.

I uninstalled QT 7.
Melodyne 4 and AD2 seem to be OK without it.  Sony Vegas 13 doesn't seem to be affected either.
So far so good.

I downloaded the quicktime 7.7.6 installer just in case, but probably won't need it.
