I know so little about the man and his music, except for his famous Woodstock performance. A great performance. Freedom!

    Hi,

A lot of the music he was doing, and what he did at Woodstock, made a lot of sense as the blacks were still having issues with segregation and other details ... and "I had a dream" ... was still important to a lot of people!

Today, it is the saddest thing seeing that and remembering it brought tears to my eyes ... and how much rap at times is meaningless and not valuable to the whole scheme of things except having the big mouth to talk about it ... and it reminds me of the little bit that Gil Scott Heron had in the movie "Performance" that no black in America will EVER appreciate, understand or go after ... the ability to really speak about it and know it ... instead of the massive greed that it has become in the rap world where their "greatness" is measured in cars, women, and killing each other for being in the wrong turf!

And I marched with Dr Martin Luther King in Madison, WI ... to give you an idea ... that most will never understand the depth and meaning of some things in one's life! Yeah ... fickleness and ego is much easier!

They are falling like flies this year
I'm 62 ... nothing has changed as folks have come and gone and I have had, over the years, some really strong cries ...

I miss Richard Wright and his weird stuff ... use a DAW and separate Richard Wright from Pink Floyd ... and listen to it ... it's way better than Tangerine Dream and more far out ... and in the end ... unafraid ... that is creativity and then some!

I miss Michael Karoli, the lead guitarist from CAN, who could out-fly and free form better than anyone else I have heard ... maybe with the exception of Jon McGlothlin, when they just simply blow out ... and you do not just hear scales, like you do with Steve Howe! This is pure free form, German style that Americans can't do, and neither can the English! Same with the incredible trippy forays for Terje Rypdal ...

I miss Storm Theorgerson, already, since no art by any single artist in the history of the ARTS -- you can use the Jansen book as your primer -- has ever been so important to my way of thinking, feeling, understanding ... and appreciating art ... and its many forms ... and this is a perfect example of "non-conformity" that helps me drive so many folks here in this board totally nuts ... sometimes all they can appreciate is the same thing again!

I have already said some odd things, up to and including ... I would rather die first than see my surrogate mom go before me ... she has been my one and only the last 20 years, and so valuable that I do not have enough tears, breaths and thoughts to surround her with ... and even for some folks here on this board ... it's like I just don't want to see them wither before me.

I don't want to see Daevid Allen go. Or Gilly!

I know that's impossible ... but it tells you how much of their spirit and work has been a part of me!

The hard part? ... it doesn't mean merde to others ... they are too busy with their own family, and this and that and this and that ... I can't blame them, but it tells you how much of our society is now wasted from the day we're born ... human experience is not important, specially in the arts, anymore ... you don't have the time to realize what Guernica was all about ... so you can do your own Guernica with your own guitar! ... and then wonder why people at the various music sites are not getting it, or buying your stuff!

It's hard ... I know ... but you have to do it! Or I ... and not anyone else ... and it is what all these people did.

    Sobering thoughts Pedro.

Were your Guernica comments in any way related to the interpretation that me & my wife did?

Not sure what you are referring to ... mine is a direct reference to Picasso and his snapshot and opinion of the Spanish Civil War during that time ... no one seems to accept/relate to that reality of seeing corpses outside your door and window, except maybe a couple of places in the Middle East ... a reality that is being hidden and needs to be brought out to help people understand more about our viciousness in many areas in this world, up to and including the Middle East, South America and Africa.

I'm sorry I missed your information of what you and your wife did ... mine is historical and my dad was a writer in Portuguese Literature and he is a part of that history (Spain and Portugal) having left a Fascist Government in 1959 for a chance at his literary career, that he managed to get off the ground! The situation then, was nasty and there is a lot of stuff published on many of the things that were censored in those days, including movie reviews!!! For me, things like Garcia Lorca and Picasso, are not a joke, and not always "art" ... they are a true snapshot ... but we sometimes like to hide the reality!

The only thing that Richie Havens was missing in "Woodstock" was the words "I have a dream" ... but said it in his own way ... freeedom ... freeeedom ... and this is something that not many folks today, evenin this board, have the courage, and internal aptitude to know what it all meant, THEN! And has become quite meaningless today, because there is no "freedom" in a lot of the music that used the DAW in it.

(I, jokingly, love to say that the DAW, is another social attempt to keep you in line of the social order! just like religion, television and many other meme's ... another brick in the wall ... do what everyone else does ... no individuality allowed! ... and of course many DAW folks don't like this being said at all ... !!!)
