RIP Robert Nix... (now with obit and bio)

Drummer for The Candymen and ARS. Died this AM but I don't know anymore... he was one of the greats. I grew up watching The Candymen up close, they were Roy Orbison's band but what they did on their own was just killer. Rodney Justo, Dean Daughtry, and Robert Nix all went on to be in ARS.

Very sad news about Robert... I also grew up watching "The Candymen" and "ARS"

Robert was an awesome drummer/songwriter, and a genuine character...

I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the "Rhythm Section" last year in Dothan... Rodney, Dean, Paul, JR and the newer guys Steve, Dave, and whats-his-name on drums... big fun... I wish Robert Nix could have been there...

That is awesome notnat!! My first guitar hero was John Rainey Adkins. There is no way to tell anyone how good the Candymen really were because there aren't many bands that have ever been that good.

I agree... John Rainey was my hero too... then his little brother, David Adkins turned out to be a super hero player... Dave and I finally got to play in a band with John Rainey in the 70's... after I left the band (BeaverTeeth), they became BJ Thomas's backup band, and traveled around the world... "I may have made my move too soon" (grin)

btw, Dave is leaving today for Robert's funeral tomorrow in Mississippi... I would go but I'm driving to Richmond, VA tomorrow...

Shoot, I remember Beaverteeth... I don't remember if I ever saw ya'll, it was the 70s though... but I remember the name and I am sure I heard it if I remember the name.
Noah's Ark played our senior prom in 1970. I'm sure you know those guys too. I don't remember if Rodney sang with them but they had Buddy Richardson on guitar and that super drummer... Bobby Caldwell. He went on to some big things too.
IMO, to have played in a band with John Rainey would stand as a lifetime achievement.... no questions asked.

I just listened to Beaverteeth on YT... whie I was writing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBlqL3PM3k8

Well, sad about Robert. Life is just so fragile and so short... we lost John Rainey way too early.

Yes, JR passed way too early...
there's a picture of me in that video starting at 1:32... I'm the 2nd from the left, and that's JR on the far right... and Dave is 2nd from the right...

Thanks for posting Roberts obit and bio...
