R.I.P. Roger Nichols

Yesterday was a sad day.

One of the all time great recoding engineers has passed after a year of terrible suffering.

The thought that you could be the very best at something and find that at the end you can barely afford to die is almost overwhelming.

I wish I had my Steely Dan albums in the van. If I did I'd rock them hard today.

Tomorrow it's gonna happen.

best regard,
mike

Sad.  Especially the financial part.  Really sad.

I personally owe him a debt of gratitude and I am sure others do as well.

After we get the front line set, EQ with the Drive Racks and my techs tell me all is ok, I then play Aja through FOH.  If it sounds good, then all is right with the world - otherwise I adjust till it does sound right.   To me, the mix on that album is second to none.    It is my, and many others, go-to standard for checking a system.

    Thank you Mr. Nichols

    Quite a loss.

Interesting according to the wiki article that he was also a nuclear physicist.  Tom Dowd, another legendary music engineer was also a nuclear physicist and worked on the a-bomb http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Dowd

Must appeal to their meticulous nature.
