RISE
Hi Group, Here's a new song that I've been working on. It's called "Rise" I decided to do a lyric video so I hope we can post Youtube links here. I got tired of trying to mix this thing so I said to heck with it and it's done Please let me know what you think. (It's slightly political so be careful;-) https://youtu.be/6NvPwWeQBq0 Regards, Craig

Craig, This is a well-crafted piece and the vocals are outstanding. Mix sounds pretty good, though I think it may get a little too dense in spots. Regards, Dan

Slightly political? I could see that track opening the Shawn Hannity show. Actually, for a political song, it's got a lot of melodic qualities. Usually when people try to force statements in their lyrics like that, the melody suffers from them trying to fit in what they want to say. But you've done a great job creating catchy lines and excellent vocal execution. Reminds me of Aimee Allen's 'Ron Paul Anthem' in that way (love that song). I'm not sophisticated enough to comment on mixes but it sounded quite professional to me. Nice work.

Craig, Very catchy track, listened without really paying attention to the lyrics the first time through and it is a very excellent pop song, vocals and BGV harmonies are great. Cool guitar solo. Went back and listened again with the video/lyrics and was surprised you got a message into that melody. Like Voda La Void says, when you try to force statements into a song the melody usually suffers. That didn't happen here so good work. Without getting political, there is some good advice in here for people on either side of the aisle, i.e. don't lose your mind. There are too many groups on both sides trying to herd "their people" into certain beliefs and thoughts. Best to stay non-tribal and use your own mind and reasoning. That is what made this country great in the first place. Regards

Not sure what "issue" you might have with suggesting people think for themselves? Nothing too controversial in that suggestion. Lyrics mean different things to different individuals. The line about losing your minds, to me, prompted a reaction about how tribal our culture is becoming on either side. My point is Tribalism removes reason at a personal level because people then tend to put tribe or disloyalty to the tribe over what they personally believe or think it right. Personal liberties is kind of what this country was founded on unless I took the wrong history classes:)

Amen. The people I fear most are those who don't understand that one political party is just as corrupt as the other regardless of ideology. I'm pretty conservative, but I'd be a liar and a fool if I said our leaders weren't on average a bunch of self serving people. Slime always has a way of rising to the top in every political system and party unfortunately. When was the last time you saw someone run for president that you looked at and said to yourself, "There's someone who really should be president." The only person in my lifetime I think that might have been true for was Eisenhower, but I was just a baby.

Thanks. I woke up one morning with this idea and melody in my head and started to develop it. It was a fun project but I'm super sick of it now..... you know how that goes when you create your own music and video , start to finish. Craig

Dan thank you, I had a feeling that the mix was on the dense side but I got to the point where I couldn't be objective anymore. After throwing in some strings and organ I pretty much stopped. I'm still learning the skill of placement and eq. It's very tough for me. I wish I had the cash to pay a pro to do some mixes. I think it would be great to what a pro could do with some of my stuff. (You did a helluva job on "The Way I Fee)" Craig

Thanks for the compliments. I know what you mean about message stuff or even comedic tunes. Remember Ray Stevens? "The Streak" showing my age here..... Robin is always on my butt about not falling into the "Debbie Boone" trap when I sing. You should here the stuff that doesn't make the final cut. Some of it will put you off your food. ;-) Craig

That's great to hear. Thanks for liking it. I did notice that the Youtube platform definitely has an algorithm that alters the loudness of the track but it didn't do too much damage to it. A little less clarity dynamic range but not too bad. Craig

To be fair, I listened a second time, without the video, and didn't have as strong a reaction, so the song can stand alone on its sonic merits. That said, the video only format option you presented clearly was intended to underscore and reinforce the political messaging - a distraction for me and reinforcing for others.

What a vocal performance! Regardless of what anyone thinks of the lyrics, it's a great song. However, those vocals are what make in shine, in my opinion. The mix sounded pretty decent to me. I know what you mean about getting to a certain point and just saying THAT'S IT! It sounds good though. Nice job Craig!

Thank you for the comments MCMD. I figure there's much worse for lyrical content in the world of hip hop and rap but the political stuff can make ones blood boil pretty quick. Regards Craig

Leadfoot, I really enjoy creating and mixing our vocals. It's really fun to not have any constraints on the creative aspects of that part of the song and with todays daws and computers it's like having a million dollar studio on your desktop and no time constraints to get a song done.. I've always been a huge fan of pop stuff with lots of backing vocals..... stuff like Journey, Abba, The Eagles, Queen, Toto Boston etc. I'm sad that the music biz has abandoned all of that for what we have today which is mostly crap to me. The downhill spiral all started about the time that Nirvana hit the scene. I was in a band at the time and I decided to hang it up. I saw the writing on the wall and I had a feeling that was the point of no return for the kind of music that personally like. Its such a great thing to be able to create music like we all can today with the tools available to the average Joe. What a hobby! Craig

A well constructed song and great mix. Top notch vocal performance. Hard not to get political with the content. I can tell there is a lot of emotion in the lyrics. I even empathize, log into FB to see much of my affluent white friends and co-workers claiming people/groups are being systematically destroyed by Boris and Natasha. I see folks loosing their minds on the left and right. I do think this could be a song for something like Hannity but I think the producers would request the removal of the "Snowflake" reference. Just my opinion.
