RME TotalMix and SONAR - how are you using it?

I am trying to be more efficient with the UFX and SONAR. I have never created mix groups or mix presets with it. Recently, a few recording sessions have proven that if I had them already setup, recording would be much quicker when recording different groups/people on a regular basis.

A few questions with this one as initial:

In the analog channels, What do you use as a trim function for recording into SONAR? Analog 9-12 have literal trim functions, but not analog 1-8. What do you use and how?

Peace,

I am not sure I understand the question.  I use a UFX and TotalMix.  Analog inputs 1-8 need a line level source, such as the output from a preamp.  Inputs 9-12 use the UFX pres.  For all inputs you adjust the gain as necessary to get a good signal for recording.  You then adjust the faders within TotalMix to mix as desired, e.g., to set up cue mixes.

You can save workspaces and mix "snapshots" and recall them.  This handy if you record and/or mix the same group or similar groups on a regular basis.

    Is this what you mean?

yes, kind of. I just got off the phone with Synthax. Jeff was pretty nice.

I was confused about the Trim button, but now I understand that it only affects the assigned output busses. I like that concept. I also went into some detail about the grouping.

I love the new graphics and flexibility. I have not really had to go into all these things because I could wing it with just headphones 9/10 and 11/12. I have to optical interfaces I am hooking up and was needing to het headphone mixes for those too. I love the way you can set each output and what input can be assigned to them if needed. I am going to look into the direct out from the unit for processing without external cables. From what I think, you have to have a hookup between the optical in and outs to get that accomplished. You can playback and have that output reassigned as you like it to record on a new track for input.

I think I am excited again about the UFX  :)

Well, I got my UFX a couple of days ago, and I've just started to learn the totalmix software. So far I'm really impressed with the software and the interface. It seems to be everything that I hoped for when I ordered it. Working great with my system!

Guitarmech111: the link below is a company that specializes in RME stuff. They have done some tutorials that I found very helpful in unstanding the TotalMix product. The link is to an introductory video but they have several

Thanks Mike, no harm or foul! :) IF I can learn anything from someone else, I count it a blessing.
