ROBOT VOICE! Can I use synths like Zeta as a vocal effect?
Kind of wondering about using Sonar synths to make vocal tracks sound all wacky and/or use it kind of like a V-Vocal where if I sang a monotone part I could make the track follow a set of MIDI notes. Also curious if there is a way to use a guitar track to effect vocals like a Talk Box effect (or whatever that old effect was called... think Peter Frampton). Anyone do this type of thing or am I stuck using more traditional effects? Happy... monday? Holy crap. I thought it was saturday. Weird. Anyway have a good day. Cheers.

Cool. Thanks, scook. How ya been? I haven't messed with Pentagon yet but I'll try to figure it out. Was hoping Zeta would do this as well but I'll read that and see if the principles apply to other synths. Also just learning the term Vocoder should help me search for info. I wasn't sure what it meant until now. Cheers.

Fine, moving again though. Pentagon is the only one of the Cakewalk synths that has this feature. You can use the Z3TA+ classic effects on an audio track but that won't be the same. Be careful with Pentagon, some settings will generate very loud bursts of noise when loading the patch. It is a known bug in the synth.

Yep, Pentagons vocoder is is probably what you want but along with vocoder the ring modulator is the classic "Robot" vocal effect. I may be wrong but I don't think any of the bundled synths has a ring modulator. This does and the extremely flexible routing would let you do something really whackey.

Guitar Rig has a ring modulator and a bunch of the filters you can play with too but you will need to supply the pitch.

Thanks, Glyn. Is Pentagon limited to one sound or can I use any of the patches for this? Kind of want to get creative and not just stick to typical sounds. Cheers.

Another thing you could play with is chopping up your vocal and building an sfz file for Rapture or DimPro. My personal preference would be Rapture.

You can use any Pentagon patch except the ones cause the synth the blow up. I believe there are a few other patches that act up in addition to the valley simulator ones.

The Ring Modulator in Melda's Free software bundle that will do this if you're looking for something easy to throw on a track that doesn't use up a lot of resources.

I'm doing it. $27 bucks is just a no brainer. And they just released an update for it. They also have a new Dynamic EQ I'm looking at. But it's expensive on it's own, you're much better off buying the Mastering Bundle. Their products work so well and sound great. I'm afraid one day they are going to get too well known, and start raising their prices. Anyway, I don't want to hi-jack here. Back on topic, there's a couple of VST's in that bundle that will do this. It's truly amazing that it's all free, 64-bit, and VST3.

Sorry Beep gotta take over for one more post. The MeldaProduction Free bundle is a good buy at retail but $27 is a steal. The license does not buy you much but the ability to resize the GUI was essential to me. I am waiting for the next major sale before scooping up one of the other bundles. Right now they are running 25% off all bundles through the end of the month. I believe they will offer a deeper discount at the end of the year.

Oh you know me, bub. I don't care about conversations trailing off in other directions. Not sure about third party stuff. Makes me nervous as you know. I'm hoping something I'm working towards will go through so I have a bit more cash kicking around for gear. I need to buy a couple drives so I can do proper system images. Then I'll get a little more adventurous with what I install on this system. I think a lot of luck I've been having as far as actual stability is due to how much I coddle it. The only third party stuff I have on it is GR5, BFD Eco and some Platinum Samples stuff. Everything else is Cake. Probably being paranoid but as I said... I need some drives. I'll run out of space on my installed E drive very quickly if I keep tossing images on there.

If you have NI Reacktor then you can dial up Prisim which has a whole selection of Vocoder Vox variation....some of which are Killer... Tal has a Free Vocoder which is very nice as well.... http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-vocoder Both 32 and 64 bit....works well especially for FREE.... In my opinion although Pentagon can be used as a vocooder it really is not all that good....I love Pentagon but not for Vocoder.... just my two cents Clifford

@scook... I was started to feel some brain burn and decided to put some of what I had been learning into practice before I starting forgetting stuff. Been putting together a song which is kind of setting the tone for a new album. Once I get it sketched out the way I like I'll start back into the manual. Probably this week. Then before the month is out whether I've finished the manual or not I'll redeem the Groove3 pass and plow through as much of that as I can. Gonna mostly stick to the more general recording/mixing vids as at this point if I focus on the Sonar based vids I'll likely be wasting time with duplicate knowledge. I have enough resources for Sonar already. However I might watch the Sonar vids as I'm passing out at night instead of watching youtube science docs. It's all the note taking that absorbs most of my time.

For those that asked about 64bit Pentagon, I was under the impression that all the DX stuff installed with 64bit SONAR had to be 64bit too. The only 32bit stuff installed with 64bit SONAR are some of the older VSTs that use BitBridge.
Pentagon is part of the 64bit SONAR install. It does require SONAR to be run as administrator.
