Interesting.  The "woo-woos" sound a little out of place until they're properly mixed.

Hi!  I'm back!  Only TWO hours after I clicked the link above.  After watching the two parts above (which I thought were great), I clicked on this one: ANOTHER LINK

That one was an hour and a half about the Stones and that ill-fated free concert they had at the Altamont Raceway in San Francisco.  Couldn't stop watching...  There were some pretty messed up people both in the Hell's Angels and in the crowd.  Probably some good zombie footage for Bub to use as well.

Its funny, it was watching this, in this form when I (for the first time - yeah I'm slow) realized how much like Dylan the Stones were. It explains a lot (I do not like Dylan either, though I respect both).

    Mooch,

Watch part 2, and you'll see Bill actually recording the part. Keith wrote alot of the bass lines and recorded some, but that's Bill you hear on the recording.

Its funny how people are just standing around the studio smoking and talking like nothings going on.

The sad thing is that the Olympic Sound Studio is no longer a working studio.   I found a site that you can buy some of the gear used on many of Olympic's famous recordings.

I like how the song evolves. The first segment had a slower feel with drums. Second segment brought in all the specialty percussive instruments, and a faster feel.  Unfortunately the segments don't show how they got there. Personally though, I'm glad they did get there.

This video was great.  Really took me back.  I loved the way they rehearsed parts down to the most basic level.  Thanks for the post!

Thanks Kev, I'll enjoy those this evening Not much of a Stones fan, but I find stuff like this fascinating, seeing how the song appears like a blurry image coming into focus.

Out of tune.  I heard that too.  On one of the acoustic guitar shots it seemed he was not playing all the chords.  This is great stuff!

Please elaborate, I must be really slow as I don't really see any comparison unless your talking about later Dylan but
even then it's seems pretty thin. Jagger and Dylan were two very, very different characters.

+1 James on blurry image coming into focus.  I'm just fascinated with studio footage regardless who the band is.

Yeah, it was great to see and hear the little 'bits' appearing that made the final track..they couldn't get the groove started until the conga player did the intro..Nicky Hopkins wonderful gospel piano instead of the organ..lovely stuff.

I do not know if I really can Steve. You do raise a good question though.

It was in the beginning when they were jamming on the acoustics, it just struck me how much Jagger and Dylan sounded alike. It may be the things "I do not like" between the two that I hear more than those who like them might (please understand that I really do not like either, like nails on a blackboard to me - with the exception of one or two songs). Obviously as the session progresses and the song evolves the sound becomes the distinctive Stones sound, and is very different musically than Dylan.

Maybe the best way to explain what I mean is with an analogy. Lenard Cohen: Different artists have taken his music and performed it with their own style. So distinctive are some that, juxtaposed with Cohen, they are spectacularly different-yet-the-same songs (Bird on a Wire for example).

    Does that make any sense?
    Cheers
    Shad
