RTL's here for MOTU 828Mk3 hybrid

Hi:  I am posting below the RTLs for the MOTU 828Mk3 Hybrid.  The numbers were determined from the RTL listed in SONAR X1b.  While these RTLs are respectable for USB 2.0, I am very disappointed with the Firewire RTLs.  What surprised me was that the USB 2.0 and the Firewire RTLs were the same!  I probably(?) would still have purchased this unit for the other features, but it would have been nice to know this in advance.  I guess that the same drivers are applied to both USB and Firewire.  Unfortunately I could not find the Firewire RTLs posted anywhere.  So, I am posting these here in hope that others will be aware of these RTLs.

FWIW, those are some pretty low real life RTLs.

I see many people either make up a number out of ignorance or just blatantly lie about latency figures.

Some of those misquotes may make you feel like your own unit doesn't compare well when in fact it does compare very well to all your other choices.

I have heard that the pre mkIII MOTU units, the older ones without the extra efx dsp have slightly better real life RTL.

    Thanks for posting.

Perhaps you could include you measurement method so that people can see what you are actually measuring.

    best regards,

Yes, good RTLs indeed! 2011/05/30 16:32:40 (permalink)
    Thanks Mike.

Yes you are correct.  These are very good numbers!  I had just hoped that the firewire would be a little faster than the USB.  However, I am Very, Very happy with the latencies.  I should have said that I was "slightly disappointed" instead of "very disappointed."

I also just wanted to get some RTL numbers out there as these units are fairly new and I have not found RTLs listed on the various sites I visited.

As to method, I just used the RTLs reported in the Sonar X1b, Preferences, Audio Drivers, Advanced tab.  Is this not an acurate method?  Can you recommend another tool? (I will check that as well).
