Radio Sound

I'm done with my first homemade indie album and I've been working with a producer and trying to master it. I already pre-mastered all the tracks and it caused him a lot of trouble trying to get the mix to the standard radio sound.

All I want is for the volume of each of the tracks to be the same as the volume of all my other songs on my itunes. There has to be a way of achieving this without the track popping or without any static.

Pleas help!

Thanks.

It shouldn't be hard for a producer with decent experience and adequate equipment to make a well-mixed track louder.

The best way is probably go back to the mixes and forgo pre-mastering, if it is your attempt to make each song "louder."   Use the 24 bit files (you did print the mixers to 24 bits, right?), and master from them one time.

Don't pre-master anything that will be sent to or mastered by someone else.

The mastering engineer likes to have headroom.

Go to http://www.discmakers.com/request/ and download a few of the free guides they have there. They tell you in plain language how to prepare your music for a professional mastering session. It has some excellent advice.

    Hi,

Sorry for the flip response earlier... I listened to the mixes on YouTube. Digging the tunes. The sound was pretty clear and airy, and the bass wasn't flabby. Sound system isn't good enough for really critical listening, but it seems to measure up with most of the other stuff I listen to on YouTube, as far as sonic quality and loudness. I suspect the problem is what other posters have suggested, namely that you've delivered mixes that are either too loud or too compressed to the mastering engineer.

Better than a sharp stick in the eye!
