Rainy Day

With winter finally over and spring returning to the land, I have been spending significantly less time indoors and a lot more time outside doing photography and videography. I put this one together over the last week. It is not so much a music vodeo, but a simple video with music. As always, the music was produced in Sonar, this time with Dimension and Rapture.

Like the video and the music fits , I can hear some changes in the music but I don't .
Maybe some percussion sounds to lift up the tones you have going and make it just a bit more interesting .

Not a bad video - mix sounds good !

I get the concept and it works my only observation is that the rain sound more like crackling than rain.  Could of course be down to U-tube encryption.

Thanks for sharing and the dog is looking well.

    Hey Shad
I always say this but . . . I only wish more forum members would do the video/music combo its so cool.  Some really nice composition shots added between the action shots. I also liked the fact that you left the video audio in over the sound track.  This looks HD and if so what camera are you using?  KUDOS!

Thanks for the look and feedback James, it is always appreciated.

John - I know what you mean. The sound from this camera is not great. What you are hearing as crackling is actually the sound of the rain on the umbrella that was covering the camera (but not so much me). It has been a very wet week of photography (I reshot many scenes as they were often too shakey when hand held so I went back with the tripod).

Thanks Kev. It is both a lot of fun, but extremely arduous at the same time. I have discovered that birds are probably the most difficult thing to photograph. It is remarkable how quickly and constanty they are in motion. I have a new found respect for wild life photographers. It is not easy. I use a Sony HD Camera that shoots native BluRay with Carl Zeiss optics. I am saving for this: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666576654

    Thanks Robby.

    Thank you Tim.

Colours are so vibrant on this, and the editing is done very well. I like it. The sound of the rain is a little distracting though.

    Hypnotic, enchanting, beautiful!

Though perhaps sketchy it's spot on! ... I love this awesome cosmic dance, the music, the dog prancing and dancing, the rain and children's voices (I think) as they all join around the water-bed ... a cosmic celebration (to my wild mind)!

Kev - yah, the new camera is a lot of cash for a fellow like me. But, unlike say a car, this is an investment that will earn its cost. I have waited for more than a decade as I knew that the technology would change too much and obsolete just about everything, but I think it is now at the point where I can safely assume it will be viable for at least five to ten years as a broadcast standard capable kit.

Thanks Mark - This actually came to life as an editing exercise. Maggie was doing the same thing over and over, so I got pretty much the same action from three different angles. It hought it would be fun to make it all like one linear shot.

Philip - Yeah, I guess to me thats what it was too... I wanted the mood of the music to match the playful, yet sort of dark feel of the film... this song had that sort of inbetween feel of upbeat and soulful - "yeah its rainy but we don't care" kinda thing. Thanks for the kind words man.

Thank you Steve.  One of the real benefits of this camera is the compact and light nature... which is also its major drawback. It is so light, it is nearly impossible to use hand held for video except at wide angle. Even hand held, I do while mounted to the tripod for weight.

Chas - yeah, I am beginning to see that leaving all the rain in was not wise. I will need to put more thought into the soundscape next time. It seems I have yet to find that balance between to little and too much. Thank you.

Frank - Me too. I am Maggie's biggest fan. She has so much character and spirit. I have tried not to inundate the world with maggie vids, but every now and then I figure one is ok.

Thanks Lynn. Each attempt teaches me more and more about what I can and cannot do and a little more about what I should and should not do.

Thanks Mark. I will confess, I was not sure any of my music would work. Most of it was written with entirely different imagry in mind. This was about the last one I thought would work, but it just slot right in and fit perfect.

Heheh, thanks Scotty. She was not so fun to watch last night when she encountered the skunk. It has been a night and morning from hell. You have no idea how bad a skunk really smells until you and your dog both get sprayed. Fortunately for me, I was 80% covered by clothing, so other than hands and head, I was mostly spray free... dog wore it full in the face. We are on our third bath with enzime skunk deoderizing stuff.

i can see that the rain is the moot point. i quite like it. it gives the music an analogue reference point inadvertently. but mostly for me nice to see your (previously still-captured) dog in motion. music is fitting; repetitive, chilled, peaceful

Alan, she is such a lively dog. She does not seem too interested in actually catching them. She just seems more interested in playing. I really love this dog. Hate to say it, but more than any of the others. She feels... like "my" dog, if you know what I mean.

Herb - Hehehe, thanks man. Synth music is a far cry from your usual style.

Robby - more vids yes, but not of my dog. I just cant always release the stuff I am working on for others (some panic if I even use YouTube privately to share. For some reason a lot of people seem to not understand that HD video is huge. It will not fit on a DVD unless it is under 10 minutes long and wont be playable as a dvd anyway).

Thank you Freddy. Each effort teaches me a little more.

Don't hang up your Guitars Daryl. If you want a vid... just ask. I would be happy to work on one for you.
