Very cool. The reason they can be restored is that they were made so well to begin with. Electrically and mechanically they are superb. If you can fix one of those, you can fix or build guitar amps when your back gives out. Guys like that are great to know when you need some obscure tube, pulley or spring.

Wow just wow , I have the pleasure of owning a 1930s Model AV that unfortunately (or fortunately) was upgraded with a solid state Trek Percussion, Pre-amp and their reverb. That being said, I cannot find the original serial number. It is paired with a 70s era 147 Leslie with original amp and drivers. I have owned many clones, including my present Nord Stage 2 and a Neo Ventilator Rotary emulator, but nothing can touch the sound of spinning tone wheels, drawbars, wood, and oil...

I still want one. spinning tonewheels, drawbars...harmonic foldback would be nice (not on all models, of course)...very unique cool sounds.

I once helped a college buddy restore a Hammond C3 just after I finished college, years ago. I knew a repair guy who let us borrow the shop manual (those were the days) and we actually got it in 100% working condition. However, he put it the basement temporarly, and his new doberman puppy went around the back and chewed off every wire connection to every tone bar. That was truly a drag. IIRC, I dont think the guy ever got it working again. If you ever get to see how a Hammond organ works - take time to consider it. It is truly amazing what can be done with a clever idea expressed in even the most basic technology. Each tonebar is (there is one for every note) is analogus to a guitar pickup. Each tone is generated by a disk (rotated by an electric motor). The metal disk is a frozen sine wave - which can give infinite sustain because the wave repeats as the disk spins in the magnetic field of the pickup. Electrically, its just like a guitar string and pu. The keys close the connection for each pickup going to the amplifier. It always floored me that it was so simple and yet so ingenius. (sorry about the spelling). Mike
